Truth is, once the door card is on, it's kept in place by the pressure between the inner door skin and the card. The tape is only there to keep it in place for the installation.

I don't know how much the speakers cost in the US, but I got them for about $80 shipped, which seemed like a good enough deal.

$80 is a lot better. i wouldn't consider over $100 for a set like that. is your plan to bypass the oem amp to get around the doors acting as subwoofers in the oem configuration?

unless you have a 2020 86 with the jbl/harman stereo, it's not going to be that easy...

the door speakers are powered from an amplifier in the trunk, under the floor mat, on the left side of the spare tire. that amplifier makes the door speakers work only as low frequency subwoofers.

there's a 3" speaker and a tweeter in the dashboard that make up the difference of the rest of the audio signal.


you'll likely need one of these adapters to bypass the amplifier by plugging this into the wire harness that plugs into the amplifier:

for a much cheaper option, you can purchase one of these harnesses and connect the wires yourself in the right order to make the same harness toyota sells for way too much. basically need to de-pin center 2 pins, then split each side to 4 pin groups, and connect to the identical pin position on the other side (top left goes to top left, top right goes to top right, etc)

Euro cars are different then.

I'm positive there's no amp in the back, and there are only tweeters in the dashboard, the main "hump" of the dash grilles contains no speakers (of course, there are speakers in the door and rear cards as well).

From what I saw, the signal goes straight to the tweeters, which filter the higher-pitched sounds and send the medium / bass to the door speakers. The rears do their thing and are pretty much useless.

I simply plugged in the replacement speakers and tweeters supplied with the kit, and they worked immediately. The connectors are P&P.

Ditched the TRD USA Quickshifter and went for the STi short shifter (thanks, @DarkSideFRS!) Didn't think it would make that big of a difference but it's night and day. Transmission build is complete now. ~

Also, the shifter bushing that comes in the TRD USA Quick Shifter kit is pretty nice, actually! Probably the one saving grace of the whole kit lol. I kept it in!

Did you add some washers to the bushing bracket so they don't squeeze so hard? I believe the bushings are a bit robust and put too much pressure on the actual bar, which would explain why it squeezes the lube out and brings back the squeaking. Adding some washers to the brackets bolts releases some of that pressure.

No I didn't. Good idea, I'll try that. I think it'll need longer bolts and lock nut.

No idea why, but using the Quickshifter at all made shifts super notchy. I had to use almost twice the force as I did with the stock shifter even when driving casually. The throw with the STi one is almost the same (teensy bit longer maybe), but it's buttery smooth.

I could have installed it wrong or not torqued it correctly though. I still have it and you got me curious to at least try it out... I'll send you a PM if I ever decide to bite the bullet lol

By the way, Permatex Orange gel is some magic shit. Didn't drive anywhere near long enough for the bolt to back out, but I had to use a foot long pry bar to undo and back out the bolt when I was uninstalling it. Highly recommend using it on the Quickshifter for anyone.

Considering I used red locktite, I'm kind of locked into it. No pun intended lol. It is notchier for sure, but I don't mind it too much.

I agree. Even though I'm in love with mine, it isn't nearly short/sporty enough to cost 350+. That's the good ol' STi tax for ya lol

I actually bought mine used on the forum for 220 and I'd even consider THAT a bit pricey imo (not that I blame the seller, he's a cool guy )
