I have been mostly WFH since I joined my new company in August 2019 and do not have any of the problems you seem to be having. A lot of the company is remote from headquarters anyway so maybe that helps? We don't do a lot of personal talk in general, but sometimes we chat a bit at the end of meeting calls and the like. I personally haven't had any gripes about people I work with and everyone seems to get along, but that's just from my limited perspective.

Basically, I think a good team would really try to make things work when working remote. Covid-19 isn't going away anytime soon and it seems the big tech companies in your area are making long term remote work plans that last through 2021. If it were me, I would probably stick it out only because I am stubborn, or try another team if I were to be reasonable about it.

I don't really like having "friends" that I work with per se. But I do enjoy being able to have a good, friendly working relationship with them. It's my way of making the work environment less harsh. Plus it's easier to get advice, and then if a project requires cross-team collaboration then I know who's who. Right now in particular the project I've been working on requires lots of asks for different teams, and since I don't know anyone it makes it more difficult to interface with them.

But yeah, things are going to be the same at pretty much any company around here for the next year with the exception of maybe tiny startups, but I'm not interested in working at those.

I probably wouldn't make any drastic changes until the 1 year mark (February).

I stayed at my last job long enough, despite issues. So I'm definitely capable of enduring over time. Though I also don't want to overstay (should've left by the third boss in 2 years, not the fifth in 3 years), which I did at the previous job too.

I think I'm just having a harder time because I live on my own and since nobody is chatty at work it means I go 8+ hours with little to no socialization outside of meetings. So it's taking an unusual toll since I became a lot more extroverted at my old job.

Hopefully you have enough funds to carry you through the holidays. With a new budget year coming up for most companies, the COVID vaccine getting closer, the political situation settling down, hopefully, new opportunities will open up for you within a few months.

It shouldn't be that long for me, couple months max, likely around 6 weeks. Doesn't mean I won't take the time to check out other opportunities.

You have a good point there. Overstaying can be very unhealthy. Three times in my careers I almost overstayed in three positions/companies.

I feel your pain. I changed jobs back in March and finding people aren't too friendly and not into small talk.. this is further compounded due to working from home.

Got through my probation period with good feedback... Notice period jumped from 4 weeks to 3 months!!

We have the same with people that have worked together for 30 years right now so I don't think it is just you guys new to the jobs! It is a difficult time for anybody that has their work and/or personal lives all messed up from lack of contact.

Definitely the same situation. That feedback is good, though! I asked my manager for 7 month feedback a few weeks ago. Mostly good, some stuff to improve on. But he seemed pretty happy with what I've been doing.

Yeah, this is why I doubt the grass would be any greener elsewhere. There are definitely other issues with my team, though. But with things as they are it'd be super difficult to determine if moving would be an improvement anyway.

Lol overstaying... I had 12 managers in my first 4 years... And then went 2 more years there.

Prime example is how people treat each other on the internet.

I probably deserve a few for my behavior but I am like that in person too
