maybe the world already ended, and we're just like those leftover french fries in the bottom of the bag.

It sure is difficult to know whether:
1. I just plain don't like my new job situation at all 2. I don't have the full picture thanks to COVID and only working in the same office with my team for 2 weeks before all this started 3. It's just a mix of everything and my issues with the new job, eight months later, are normal "challenges" that I need to work through 4. I've seen and experienced enough to know it's not the right job and should try looking for a different team or different company altogether I'm already able to switch teams if I can find one with open headcount but I'm worried about going down that path because most of the same factors would exist even on a different team. We'll be WFH at least through the end of June now. It also means burning the bridge with the current boss and team I have. Makes me wish I would've known the world would be like this and I would've stayed at my previous job. It wasn't great either, but at least I felt more comfortable with coworkers there and felt relatively comfortable being there in general. Eight months into this new job and I absolutely can't stand working with 3 people on my team for various reasons and I know absolutely nobody outside my team, so I have nobody to talk to. At the old job I knew so many people outside my team that I always had someone to grab coffee/beer/food or shoot the shit with.

I have been mostly WFH since I joined my new company in August 2019 and do not have any of the problems you seem to be having. A lot of the company is remote from headquarters anyway so maybe that helps? We don't do a lot of personal talk in general, but sometimes we chat a bit at the end of meeting calls and the like. I personally haven't had any gripes about people I work with and everyone seems to get along, but that's just from my limited perspective. Basically, I think a good team would really try to make things work when working remote. Covid-19 isn't going away anytime soon and it seems the big tech companies in your area are making long term remote work plans that last through 2021. If it were me, I would probably stick it out only because I am stubborn, or try another team if I were to be reasonable about it. |
