My stew was literally done and then since I happen to be on-call this week for work I got a severity-2 page. Had the teeniest of bowl servings. Got to work for 3 hours with my boss to figure out the issue.

It is now 12am. Since I left the Dutch oven with its cover on it stayed pretty warm. So I warmed it up more and started picking at it.

Best stew I’ve ever made. No question.

Even the damn potatoes. I had added them with just about an hour left of cook time and the cover off in the oven. So the potato chunk edges mostly all got a bit crispy while soaking in the stew. So effing good.

Anywho, now waiting for it to cool a bit and then pt in fridge. Then do cleanup and get to sleep.

There is no way I could be on call like that. I can sleep through most anything. I have to rotate alarms on a regular basis because I get used to them. Used to drive my roommates crazy back before I got my own place

I can't hear my alarm go off, if my good ear is against my pillow. Then, mrs humfrz has to pound on me and tell me to shut off my alarm. Sometimes, it's HER alarm that is going off and she pounds on me to shut MY alarm off, that isn't ringing. As I am beating on my alarm to try to shut it off, she finally realizes that it is HER alarm going off.

Couldn't even rationally reason with myself into a gts on the 981. It just because me buying a GTS yhen paying out the butt to add all the GT4's goodies onto the car spending even more. Kind of the reason I've stayed with this platform through the entire gen. It keeps me in check and not further down the rabbit hole.

Finally took it on a short drive yesterday, 15' S with PDK. Holy shit what a car. Everything about it feels so right. Steering feel is amazing, stock suspension feels amazing. Very supple and composed over rough roads with an acceptable amount of body roll that it would be fine on track. Engine pulls well at lower RPM's and just builds till redline and sounds amazing.

Still can't justify it but damn.

what are some of your non car related hobbies?

im really into backcountry backpacking, doing 5 day treks with a tent and sleeping back in my backpack with ramen to cook on a jetboil and trail mix for breakfast. this summer i did the idaho sawtooth wilderness loop, a 70 mile trip through 10,000 foot mountains, 5 days on the trail.

So, as Humfrz mentioned, I finished the first 1/4 of it. Though I may throw an extra chapter in to expand on a particular character. It's honestly the boring introduction part of it, although the prologue is very in medias res so quite entertaining. Mostly just setting the scene for the rest of the book as there is a lot of world and character building. Gotta talk about the main character's motivations and formulate an antagonist.

As for the whole book, it's a science-fiction war novel in the sense of Starship Troopers or The Forever War. So although it's set in a futuristic setting, it's still very much an allegory for survival guilt and coming to terms of never getting closure. But for good measure I throw in a lovely little twist, which has roots planted within the first quarter. Mostly so that it doesn't become too preachy and still be entertaining for the average reader. Though I decided early on not to dumb down much of the military lingo.

I had the idea of keeping it rather apolitical, but being a war novel, that's inherent. So I just try to be very vague and only have knowledge given that the main character (a recon scout grunt) would know. I should also add I plant to incorporate themes from both a war novel as well as psychological horror elements and some cliche scifi. Although I want things as ground in reality as possible. I mean, I took a physics and international relations class in college just for this lol.

I made a snowflake method outline. But that doesn't mean I won't go back and add more at some point.
