The battery buffers the amp spikes. If you don't have a huge system it'll be ok

Actually just installed the sub this weekend. No issues so far, knock on wood. 300w rms sub + matched amp, though it's probably running at about half of that.

300 doesn't sound huge to me. I'm sure there is some way to test amperage drop. Google will tell you. If it was me I'd just wing it lol

watch battery voltage for a little while, but you ought to be fine.

the main trick is to not tell the battery what's connected to it.
