I'm not sure why, but every office we have in Germany adores PowerPoint. I don't think there's been a single meeting they've hosted since content sharing became a thing where they didn't have a presentation ready to go. Most with the same lead image with the company logo on it. We joke that it isn't a meeting until that slide shows up.

They've even gone so far as to request I change a Word based FAQ I wrote on AV into a PowerPoint presentation. I copy/pasted the data from Word to PowerPoint, made sure the pages/slide splits made sense, and they were happy.

It's used a lot in my experience. It's a pretty useful tool for presenting high-level technical concepts to often non-technical people.

The auto industry around the world is still very, very, very into PPT. Don't think it could get by without it. I deal with at least three or four presentations every single day.

I use Powerpoint all the time. It is an easy way to display data and pace it with what is being said in the presentation.

The U.S. is run on Powerpoint. Every company I know or have worked for uses it. The Pentagon and the White House don't make a move until the PPT is complete. Any massive corporate project progresses like this:

1. An email exchange to create and layout the idea.
2. An Excel spreadsheet to show it's feasible and there is some ROI.
3. A Word document containing the contract with 3rd parties.
4. A Powerpoint presented to the board using their standard template to sell the project.
5. A Word document tracking the project progress that should really be done in MS Project but no one would understand it.
6. An Excel spreadsheet showing how much overbudget the project is and how it will never complete on-time.
7. An email from the CEO to the project leader saying to fire everyone when the project goes over budget, closing the circle.

You missed a step between 6 & 7!
There should be one more PPT that deflects blame from the true source to somebody else. Then in #7 the CEO fires the wrong group allowing the group that actually screwed up to carry on making PPTs.


I tried to get my plants to use MS Project for years. The engineering groups were all over it but since nobody else could even remotely follow the program it fell to the wayside and we went right back to the system you described almost perfectly.


Now, having come into the industry before PPT existed I am more than happy that it came along! Trying to do the same thing with hand written memos, heat sensitive paper photo copies and transparent overheads (usually hand drawn) was a nightmare I prefer to forget!!!!!!
