You could then do what MS is doing and augment specific areas such as cities, racetracks, etc.

I've never really cared for driving sims, but I would buy that.
The problem is surface fidelity. Making a map and laying it over elevation is relatively easy, but the elevation data is not detailed enough to show the difference between road and sidewalk, or show a road under trees. That involves manual labor to get it right, and that is when"whole world" doesn't work.

That's where the GPS road mapping data comes in, to fill in the blanks. It would be relatively easy to make an accurate driving game that used GPS mapping data, it just wouldn't have landscape. Merge the two together and you get close. Like I said, a massive project but it's doable, its just is it marketable at a "game" price.

I'm currently playing SRP through a Vive and it's pretty fantastic. Even playing it on a single screen with the right mods and settings will make it feel like the Wangan Midnight arcade game, with realistic physics.

That's the way to do it. I remember doing that with only one game and that was SOMA. I'm so glad I did but I can't help myself with 2077; I need the fix.

Does VR give you a better sense of distance? That has always been my biggest struggle with TV's/monitors.

I do this only with games I'm looking forward to. Too many times have I been spoiled by some video or altered gameplay because I knew something before hand.

It also doesn't help to have friends that literally read and watch more about video games than actually playing them.

In my case, not really. It's honestly not much better with my Vive and a GTX 1070. When I build a new PC, I'm going to be installing an RTX 3080 in it instead, so I'm hoping I get better results there.

I'm also considering that next year I'm selling the Vive and buying a Valve Index, especially if there is a chance that wireless modules can be made for the Index as well.

A couple of times I have gone looking for car clips and been caught out by a racing sim. It has taken a few seconds to work out that what I am seeing isn't the real world.

Sure, I get that but that doesn't change the fact that it's only 55 days to go.

I'm actually looking forward to Watch Dogs Legion. It will give me some new to play. I have been reinstalling and uninstalling old games. Having said that I've played Control for about 110 hours and still not really enjoyed it. Weird huh?

I've "sort of" enjoyed the Watch Dog games, although the fall into the "open world a little too repetitive and we can't quite get driving right" realm. The new one sounds interesting. I like the idea that character's actions can have fatal consequences, but doesn't end the game, you just continue as someone else.

Yeah, I know, nothing is set in stone until something gets released but there are different levels/reliability of rumour. This guy (I've been watching his channel for a few months) seems to have good sources. I am a little excited. Not because I am an AMD fanboi, just that I like to see the underdog win every now and then, in any competition.
