Decided to make my 2017 BRZ fender garnishes functional The hardest part was removing the old molding tape......

Gave it a wash and installed new windshield banner.

If you don't need to carry a lot of people or cargo, you can definitely live with a BRZ every day as your only car. It does all the jobs I need – daily driver, errand runner, limited cargo hauler – as well as the jobs I want, like back road carver, occasional autocross toy, and, eventually, occasional track car.

Do you have pics of how much of your fender you ended up cutting?

People yea, it is a bit crowded for 4, but as far as cargo I guess it depends on what you mean by a lot. Folks pack a lot of stuff into an 86 as you'll see here.

I hope these help. These were the only photos I took.. :X I only cut the area where the vents would be (see the second image using the garnish pop clips as reference points for yours). If I had the older model fender garnishes then I would've extended it more back (but I like this design better). I can feel heat escaping through them. I was initially going to install some discreet vents on the oem CWP hood (if you know of any.. let me know!!), but I wanted to keep the oem look. So I tried to take a stab at this one first. Seeing how you have the 86 garnishes, I think it'll be easier to cut out the fake vents on the garnishes than the brz variant.

Does it have any effect on hood lift/wobble at highway/interstate speeds?

I didn't notice any of that at highway speeds. I assume if it was an issue, others that have done it in the past with the more popular 2013-2016 brz garnishes would've said something in the diy fender vent threads. My intentions for doing this was to help venting out heat from the supercharger in stop and go traffic and after parking.

Really? I can watch as my hood visibly raises above the fender. More speed lifts it more. This is on a 2020 model.

Ah I see what you mean. Let me rephrase my previous post. Yeah I get the "normal" hood lift at highway speed, but cutting the fender to vent out air didn't increase it any further. I say it's "normal" hood lift cause I suspect air is entering through the gap where the hood meets the headlights and the air just wants to exit through the gaps of our hood and fender.. thus lifting our hood above the fenders. Correct me if I'm wrong xD

My hood would lift when the little rubber height adjusters were set too low. Maybe yours weren’t fully adjusted from the factory. Try shaking your hood from where it hangs over the headlight. It shouldn’t move at all.

My hood had these problems, but I discovered my hood stops were actually set too high and keeping the corners raised ever so slightly. I turned them down like a half turn and it seems to have helped. Still solid, just sitting a bit lower. One might also be able to adjust the hood latch to be lower.
