I watched a Toyota commercial the other night, high revving Camry TRD and corrollas shifting through the streets. No gt86 though? There must be some inventory to incentivize its inclusion in a commercial still right?

Interesting marketing ploy with these over here, a more than $10K discount for the first 1000 buyers, you’d hate to be the 1001st buyer lol.

$49,500 + on road costs, normal retail price.
$39,950 drive away for the first 1000 buyers.

I find that interesting from a marketing point of view; that's a significant discount.
I look at the car and all the trick bits and think it's worth $50k but then I see the badge and then I'm not so sure.

That is $36k in USD and $30k if someone was one of the first 1000, and for that price, I would take the GR Yaris in a second. For $36k, I would take it over the CTR, STI, Golf R, Focus RS, etc. for the weight. I get that it doesn't have the displacement of its rivals, but it is pretty trick, and it has a serious weight advantage at 2800lbs; the closest rival is the CTR at 300lbs heavier, and it doesn't have AWD. It is 600lbs lighter than the STI and Focus RS. I would have to assess the quality of the interior and other bits, but after seeing the full spec sheet, I have been converted. They really did a good job with this thing.

In Australia they don't get the track package, meaning it has open diffs. Not worth it.

It mentions this in the article: “Toyota has also confirmed it will bring in 250 examples of a high-performance variant in the first half of 2021, which gains limited-slip differentials, stickier Michelin tyres, and lightweight BBS alloy wheels – and will be named the GR Yaris Rallye.”

Is that the one you’re referring to? If so I guess we do get it, but it will be priced higher.

Toyota USA has always been awful. They have always done everything to keep any of the interesting variants of the cars as far away from the USA as possible. Toyota will probably have to threaten to fire everyone to bring us any GR variant of any of its cars to the USA.

Here is a short video of Daigo Saito having fun in his car. Besides the bodykit and the fitting wheels it's still stock.

So in the morning I went to see one live. Still a pre-production car without the circuit pack and in pearl white. And what shall I say? A beast indeed.

I'm 1,85m and I had plenty of room. The seat still had a way to go so I think taller folk can get comfortable too. Seating position is good. It's not as low as a Civic Type R if I remember that right but it is lower than the Yaris GRMN for example. Two other guys who were roughly as tall as me tried to sit behind each other and it worked. Don't know how comfortable it was though.

Obviously I took a few pictures of it and was given a brochure too. It's nothing that hasn't been seen before though.

That's also my part of my verdict. Everyone who is interested really has to see one in the flesh. All the videos and pictures can't do it justice. It has a presence that just needs to be experienced.

And in terms of driving well one of the bosses told me demonstration cars should arrive at the end of October/early November.

It won't be anything like the Yaris, including yes, no AWD, hence the not equal sign: =/=
