i was just trying to show cars in a similar price range, but since you guys wanted the 370z and 86 i added interior pics from the same source which doesn't flavor one over the other with better lighting or scenery.

The Supra's design looks like they are channeling a retro 2000 version of the car with a Tom-Tom GPS suctioned to the dash.

Have I mentioned I'm not a fan of the the iPad on top look?

I think most people share this sentiment, but there are limited options. If they move the screen down then people take their eyes off the road, and the interface becomes a distraction or a frustration to use as the driver toggles their vision back and forth. They can integrate it into the dash up high, but then the dash becomes big and bulky. The most clever solutions I have seen are when the screen rises from he dash or flips up, but that is on higher end cars and adds weight and complexity. The other solution is to centralize the display/nav to the gauge cluster like it is on Audi's and other cars.

Had the Supra not been developed at the height of this design trend then perhaps it wouldn't have looked like that.

Yea the Gen2 CTS-V has this, and there are kits to change it so an aftermarket display will fit in the space without having to have it rise up. I like that "solution".

If there is a concern about people looking down at it for NAV then a heads-up display fixes that.

EDIT: Wrong car, same idea.

That just goes back to the pre-tablet screens.

What would a heads up display look like?

Edit: I guess they could do a heads up display with music, navigation and calling. That seems reasonable to get the main screen down. I would probably prefer this over a digital Audi dash.

I don’t agree. To be precise, I don’t consider either to be very premium as I understand the term.

Completely subjective, but despite (or maybe because of) its outdated design (real gauges, infotainment down in the centre stack etc) I prefer the design of the Z interior (as a sportscar cabin) to the Supra (which just doesn’t look very sporty to me).

My favourite interior of the ones posted, however, has to be the Boxster/Cayman - I think Porsche nailed it in terms of a genuine premium sportscar cabin - elegant, driver focussed, uncluttered, timeless design. The TT is also beautiful inside. The others are all too fussy, awkward, or incorporate short term design trends (e.g. poorly integrated tablet style infotainment) that will quickly age their interiors.

The new heads-up in the Cadillacs will have a two layer heads up display that projects GPS nav so it appears to be actually on the road, and other information in front of it. Couldn't find a good picture of it though.

Speaking of modern design, if you don't like the above I do like the approach in the new Escalade. It is similar to the "on top" design but everything looks more traditional from the driver's seat and things that should be real buttons are real buttons.

This is really just three screens, a driver information screen on the left, the instrument console where the instruments should be, and the infotainment screen on the right. All of those are available in pre-2021 vehicles as well, just not as well presented as it is here, in my opinion.
