I cannot stand the auto on off feature. Just hate it, and as cars age it only get worse.

Me too. Probably will drive old cars that don’t have it for a long time. Or find a way to disable for good.

someone stopped to let me through a narrow parking area today, and as i waved 'thanks' after making it through, i heard the car start up.

for a second, i took it as an a$$hole-ish, "you took so long i had to turn the car off!" move.

and then i realized the car did it by itself.

It's much less annoying on a manual as by the time you shift out of neutral and press the clutch, the engine is on. So you don't have the hesitation like in an auto car.

OK, so exactly how does it work on a manual? Does it only shut the engine off if you shift to neutral?

"seamless"

LMAO. Not remotely.

Here in NC it's just about the dumbest thing IMO. These idiotic systems don't take into account the (near) requirement of AC in warm climates (like here in NC). You can't turn off the AC. Just...no.

I've driven my parents Volvo XC60 with auto start/stop and it's just about one of the most miserable things ever.

I’ve found it really depends on implementation. For example, on a Chevy Malibu it is almost seamless. No hesitation, no jerk. Just a smooth quiet start as you release brake pressure. I don’t mind it at all.

On a VW Tiguan, it is disruptive. It shakes the body when starting up and the car will lurch off the line. Very annoying.

So everyone’s opinions on stop start will depend on what type of stop start they’ve experienced.

Yeah im thinking its a implementation thing. Some do better than others.

My BMW is seamless, no jerking or hesitation. You do feel the difference between engine on and off though, but its ready to go almost immediately ones its fired up. There were instances where the engine DIDNT shut off (and made me wonder iif the start/stop feature was actually enabled or not), which im guessing had something to do with the fans...im not sure how it decides when to stay on or shut off.

Oh and if i have air blowing they go in a low power state when the engine shuts off and goes back to full blast when the engine starts up again.

And since Subaru is targetting zero deaths, EyeSight will be standard. In fact, it will come with all their future cars, even the BRZ.

The other big piece of performance news is a 4WD sports hatchback. Subaru wants to return to the WRX, but can't do that without a homologation special. Thus, the company will unveil a limited-edition small hatch, a bit like the GR Yaris, though no details are available at this moment.

Hmm, I may have to reconsider my No Gen2 stance.
