Yes, as soon as water gets in them (strong rain, sprinklers) they will trickle rust tracks over your wheels.

Are the OEM lug nuts inferior?
Like the 2-piece kind that get stripped on the outer cap?

I prefer the OEM look, what should I buy?
I want zero tuner flash, just quality that is more reliable and not likely to get stuck.
What brand ? Gorilla? McGard?

basically the gold standard are gorilla spline close ended lugs, i think theyre 25$. In your scenario, i would opt for close ended lugs, it will not allow road grime/salt to reach the studs and potentially cause a crossthread problem down the road. im using gorilla closed spline currently. the "spline" refers to the special key that you use to take them on an off, its supposed to help with theft prevention, i keep it in my glove box, but every shop on planet earth has these keys in their toolbox's.

Just to reinforce how much of a staple the gorilla splines are, if you buy wheels/tires from tire rack, gorilla splines come free

Since when? The last 2 sets of wheels I've ordered have not had splined lug nuts

Maybe I'm crazy, but I definitely never had this happen that I'd notice, and I've driven through a lot of rain on my car with junk aluminum open ended lugnuts

I stopped using alu lugnuts, as powertools are simply too comfortable for someone as lazy as me, to spend lot of care tightening them with hand. As for openended ones, due extended studs installed i have to use such. But for DD i simply install plastic caps over, for dirt to not get in.

I like McGards. The floating seat saves some paint on the wheels and they fit perfectly on standard length lugs.
