Yeah I know. I can't help it I work with people that can't follow directions. I bet I still get a phone call tomorrow about it. What is this order? Where is this item? Who is it going to? When do they need it by?

Yeah. It lost popularity soon after it became known as a way to signal sexual availability in prison.

Rumor is we are cutting hourly employees to 32/wk. Salary employees are getting 10% pay cut, and we are getting rid of a few employees.

I remember back in the day when I was a field research rep for a pesticide company, the manager for regulatory affairs called me on a Sunday night at my home, from Washington DC. I was deep into my bottle of whisky when he asked me to give him the use directions for this experimental herbicide that he was going to submit to the EPA for registration. I told him that I was drunk and he should call me back in the morning. He said he needed it NOW because first thing in the morning he had to submit the application to the EPA. He then turned on the speakerphone in the hotel office so, a secretary could type it up as I spoke. I said well OK, mixed another drink and rattled it off (about a page worth). The hotel secretary typed it onto the application form. He submitted the label to the EPA, they accepted it and the product was registered. The language that I rattled off, while drunk, remained intact on the label for that product for several years. When I met up with George a few days later, I told him he should have called someone else, like Larry, another research rep, for 11th hour information. George said he called Larry first, but he was drunker that I was!

I have thought about stepping into a position to make those types of changes, but when I go down stairs and see the train wreak it is, I remind myself I am trying to force the GM into doing it. He always talks, but is chickenshit when it comes to backing it up and tends to handcuff his managers.

It's called the "Australian railroad" business strategy. This was first proposed to me by a professor when I was taking a course from the Wharton School of Business. Why he called it that, I have no idea. This is basically how it works. When you have a business idea/plan/strategy that you want to "sell" to upper management, wait for a group meeting to present it. Before you present it, "sell" it to several of your peers. Then ask them to actively, without prompting, support you when you bring up your idea in a group meeting with the boss. I've done this and it works. |

What truly upsets me is in researching this phenomenon I've learned that it's now being used by a specific group to protest their treatment both past and present. As such, the rest of us have no recourse. We have to allow them their right to free expression. It's the Politically Correct way.
