Can I do this?
Hi all,
I was wondering if I can put in an order with more than one dealer. I am guessing the answer is yes, as long as I am getting my deposit back. Any ideas on contract clause I can mention in there that would get me out of it? And if I do that, would they see me in the system? I am guessing not, but it is worth asking. A toyota sales person called me today telling me that there is a high chance to get a car before or sometimes around Christmas if i put in an order this week. I am guessing there is no chance to get it earlier than 6 months. Cheers |

I put deposits down at two dealers. No problem here in the US. I gave my business to the dealer that received the car I wanted first. Then I drove my new FR-S to the other dealer and got my deposit back!

Just be transparent with both dealers that you will be placing an order for the car with two dealers to get the car sooner. Be upfront with them and honest and you will be surprised. Nothing wrong with that, if they refuse then try another dealer. and yes you can sign two contracts but make sure you if you do decide to sign have it in the contract that you will seek deposit refund if your circumstances change. Another clause you may use is the finance clause. "subject to finance" . This is to protect yourself. At the end of the day the waiting period will also vary across different dealers in terms of the spec you order (GT Manual / Auto or GTS / color) |

Then, not only are you stuck with a second car, you are also repaying it at an inflated rate. I'd suggest going to them in good faith, and be upfront. Some dealers may happily let you cancel, as it will give them access to a car which they can easily offload. |

If your sign 2 contracts you will own 2 cars. People seem to think otherwise but at the end of the day would you would be signing 2 legally binding contracts. Also if you was to place an order with any dealership you go into a waiting list and your car that you order comes along the production line as your order is placed so if you place 2 orders at 2 differant dealerships the chances both cars follow eachother down the production line is very strong. Not the smartest thing to do!!

I would expect that response from a dealer.
It is fine to do this as long as you have it written plainly that your deposit is refundable for any reason you want. I went to another dealer because my original was playing games, got my money back. My signed paperwork said "100% refundable". |

Oh yeah i forgot the subject to finance clause will not save you!! Read the clause "THE PURCHASER MUST PROVIDE ALL DOCUMENTS AND TAKE ALL REASONABLE STEPS TO OBTAIN FINANCE APPROVEL" Failing to provide these documents will mean your braking your contract.

I don't see why you would sign 2 contracts at the same time.
what i would do is sign a contract to order a car from 1 dealer with the condition that the contract is cancelled and deposit fully refundable if you can find a car quicker at another dealer. then actively look out for another car and if you can find one and jump the queue, then cancel the one you signed earlier. |

A bit of a bull here mate, to be honest with you. If I say that I have a personal financial problem, as in someone dies in the family, or I buy it for my wife and we got divorced? Furthermore, I can just cancell stating that my situation has changed and that is it. I just dont want the car, and I doubt you will be keeping that in your showroom more than a day or two, given the demand. |

Get your dealer(s) to put a "subject to test drive" clause on your contract(s).
Buy the one that comes first, then when the second one comes, take it for a "test drive", then say you hate it and collect your deposit. |

Oh look:
"Other conditions precedent Other common conditions precedent are clauses in the contract stating that the contract is subject to:
Regulation 21(2) has identical conditions for a conditional contract to buy a car where you subsequently decide not to continue with the contract." |
