It probably has something to do with the rubber absorbing the sound.

Really liking the 1/4 inch mdf plates that they made to seal off the rear speakers. Any idea what the mounting depth was once those plates were bolted up?

Yeah man I'm really happy he did that, but unfortunately I'm not too sure of the depth. It's enough to fit a 5.5" mid range so it has to be decently deep.

The blog shows that there are only 12.5" of usable height inside the trunk, but you were able to use a box 13" tall? Just curious because I have a 13" sub that I will try to use and the total height of the sub is 10.5", so I'll need as much height distance as possible. If you have a box 13" tall I think I should be fine.

Wow didn't even notice his measurements were off. but there is very little room up top. What you see in the cutout is the gap between the top and bottom. With the subs facing up maybe he meant something else with the word "useable". If the boxes dimensions are as he said then you should have no problem with yours
