I'd love to hear more about the reasoning for your change and what you have done to the 86. I also used to have a Porsche and miss it. But there are also fantastic things about the 86 that I appreciate very much.

Thanks mate, I loved the Porsche, they are (were?) built with such integrity and in an older Porsche the challenge of driving one well was always stimulating and exciting.

But part of me always knew that I could never master it fully, a fact brought into stark focus when my pro driver mate proceeded to slide my 993 at ridiculous angles at ridiculous speeds on our mountain roads near here.... my sort of 3/4 lock, lift off oversteer slides felt a bit lame....

I also come from a rally background so I would see all these wonderful dirt roads that I couldn't touch.

Its value went nuts a few years ago so I thought bugger it, if some idiot wants to pay me too much money for my car, i'll sell it and use its value to create my own 'ultimate' rear wheel drive car, and enjoy it...before things change so much that such things are either illegal, or so highly regulated and monitored that driving as we know it evaporates.
So I bought a brand new BRZ a few years ago, filled it full of fuel, weighed it, then drove straight into my home garage and started pulling things out and putting things in.
I have not left a single thing un-touched, and/or un-considered on the car. My philosophy was that anything and everything had to either improve function, decrease weight or simply make me want to drive more. Those fundamental principles were actually quite liberating.
So Harrop supercharger with 65mm pulley, Motec M150, custom made Ohlins TPX/TTX rally dampers, OS Giken clutch and diff, lower final drive, custom titanium single pipe exhaust, uprated cooling, oil cooling, IAG low comp stage two bottom end, E85 Flex, AP Racing brakes, rear seat deletes, a weight loss programme, two sets of the lightest strongest wheels I could find, HID driving/spot lights, etc etc.
...people ask if I miss the old Porsche, and I say no... because I can honestly say no car has brought me more happiness and driving pleasure than this BRZ.

Thanks for sharing, grumpy. That makes a lot of sense to me. A buddy of mine had a supercharged 964 C4S in pristine condition. He was a group leader for an organization I teach with, and would regularly drive it on tracks without too much concern. But when prices started going up, he thought twice about it. Eventually he sold it and use the money to get into one of the cheaper GT3s he could find.

Age 68 and on my second 86, a 2020 Hakone Edition. My 2015 Ultramarine FR-S went to California to my nephew at 70K miles. It was a daily driver for 5 1/2 years and made it through 6 New England winters. I am also a musician who totes around a euphonium (small tuba), music, music stands, and other stuff to rehearsals and concerts all over New England. The trunk space (with seat down or up) is amazing for such a small, fun sports car. My wife and I perfected the "stick your butt in first" method of ingress/egress and she rides with me happily.

Even though I have had it for 5 months, the Hakone only has 500 miles on it. It sat out this winter and with "stay at home" orders, it is still a garage queen. However, in better times and clime I look forward to many happy miles ahead.

64 here. Please expand on how you survived those NE winters. Snow tires?

will be 52 in November. I've always liked the small, light weight rwd manual trans sports car.

This thing fits the bill, and with the Tech RS package, its exceeds all expectations, except for power and torque.

Snow tires. Daily drove my FR-S to 70k miles. I now have 2k miles on the Hakone 86. I have 2 season old 205/50-16 Blizzak WS-80's on a set of restored 16" wheels for winter use. Also, I turn 69 in 4 days, so time marches on.
