Nice. Loud as fuck though.

1. Does is have boxer rumble?

2. I thought EL headers kill hp due to restricted flow.

  1. No. The rumble comes from the exhaust pulses passing through the exhaust when the runners are not equal length.
  2. I don't know the technical terms, but I guarantee flow (measured on a flowbench) is higher on any aftermarket manifold. EL headers make more power from optimum runner lengths that separate individual exhaust pulses and then dump them at a merge at the same time. That's the basic explanation and probably contains incorrect terminology...what you need to know is that EL > UEL when it comes to making power.

Unequal length will have lessened effect on a turbo system because the strength of the sonic and pressure pulses are reduced compared to the 'static' exhaust pressure in the system. NA and Turbo manifold design are similar in principle but quite different in effect there of...if that makes sense.

Those searching for EL vs UEL manifolds for this application are barking up the wrong tree IMO. Then again, I'm all about function and not form.

Think of these exhaust pulses as a spring/slinky. So each time your exhaust 'pulses' is like you sending a wave down a slinky. Now the slinky will 'reflect' the wave back. These waves are what we use to tune the performance of a manifold. If your slinky is thicker or longer, the wave moves at a different speed. This means that the reflected time back to the start point (valve seat) of the slinky is different. This will net cylinder imbalance as the tuned length of the ports aren't the same. This can reduce scavenging effects on one cylinder compared to another or have increased reversion, which will effect combustion, detonation limits and AFR's. To what extent naturally depends on given conditions and applications.

We then go to the collector where you want to pulses to evenly dump into it to keep it's flow velocity going out to the exhaust and to help reduce scavenging effects on all the cylinders. Think of this as when you were a kid and making a wave pool (like all kids do). The unequal length runner is your dumb friend with no rhythm that kills the wave by pulsing at the wrong time lol.

I hope that helps to understand why you don't want to compromise your cylinder balancing in the name of a sound.

As far as flow designs - I would test the current design vs. the torque biasing.
Ah you californians and your keep it stock looking, must suck that every cop is out there trying to ticket moded cars though so i dont blame you.

I believe the maximum fine for any business that willingly modifies a customers road going vehicle by removing their catalytical converter is $100,000 if caught. Swapping for performance cats doesn't count.

Have seen signs to that effect.

No a cop in CA is not going to get on the ground under your car to check the catalytic converter/s. The most he will do is pop the hood and hand you a ticket to go see the State Referee (if something looks aftermarket and has no exemption sticker) or you can pay a fine (for me it was $400) if you don't see the Referee.

When you go to the referee he will check your catalytic converter/s and all other emissions equip as well as check for illegal parts. He will smog the car and will either pass/fail you.

If you pass you go to court and prove that the car passed and after a small fee you are sent on your way.

If you fail the car is illegal on the streets but you are allowed a certain amount of time to fix it and return to the Referee for re-examination.

This was the process for me at least.

so the catted namless header would pass, then? It'd probably pass smog, who knows about visual though... you can see the cat right there from the top of the engine bay on the downpipe and on the header.

If it needs a CARB stamp and doesn't have one it won't pass visual.
