Not entirely accurate dimensions, but thanks.

I forgot to post this. See my build for pics, but I put down sound deadening 80mil when installing my sound system. It has greatly improved the sound of my stereo system and drivability from greatly reduced road noise, but this was at the cost of probably 75-100lbs. It would be cool if Nissan could make a 2800lb car like the 86, yet have it be as quiet as a luxury car.

Of all my issues with the 370Z, external styling is not one of them. It’s subjective, but the Z34 is a handsome car to my eyes. Dare I say... better and more premium looking than the twins (don’t shoot me, I still like the twins, I own one!).

To me, the worst sin from Nissan and the thing that instantly dates the Z is not updating the interior of the Z for 11 years. It was already old fashioned in 2009, today it looks pretty ancient inside. How hard would it have been for them to modernise the centre screen and gauge cluster, maybe with a reach adjustable steering column whilst at it?

And maybe toss the 2008 maxima steering wheel too?

You’re very right. The 370 looks good to me. The 350 looked better to my eye but neither looks bad. The interior and handling at the limit are these cars’ Achilles heels.

With comparable weight, decent design and turbo V6, all they would need is to offer a manual and they would steal away a lot of the prospective Supra buyers who were denied 6MT. I know I'd be interested down the line. I have fond memories of my grandpa's two 260Zs. Always wish he had held onto at least one of them.

Nissan's biggest issue is their crazy losses over the last few years that have only been compounded by the pandemic. Not sure if they could even afford to build a half decent Z

I still think the 350/370Z look pretty bloated and toad-like... At least with the MIata and FT86 they're just on stilts, you can lower them a bit and all's well. 350/370Z just look like lower bloated toads when you lower them...

I feel the same, and I'm fairly certain it's because the car's lines are really bland. It's not a bad shape overall, but it's not that interesting piece by piece.

Looks like they gave it some throwback styling a la 240Z

Very interesting. I think it is going to be a winner.

But for the price....

Wink It's Happening!!!

Bump for the OG Thread

Quote:
official powertrain details aren't available, but we learned the long hood will hide a Z-specific version of the twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter V6 found in the Infiniti Q50/Q60 400 Red Sport. It will spin the rear wheels via either a six-speed manual transmission or a nine-speed automatic. Looking ahead, the range will likely grow with the addition of a Nismo-tuned model whose six-cylinder will deliver approximately 500 horsepower.
Manual transmission. Praise Jesus!

You beat me to it! Here's a TTAC article accompanying the video:

https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/20...f-appearances/

IF Nissan really does introduce a new 400Z, and IF it comes with a manual transmission (and isn't just a warmed-over Infiniti Q60 with a silly floppy paddle shifter automatic transmission), I might well replace both my BRZ and Mustang GT with one. A 370Z was high on my list when shopping for the BRZ, and edged out only because of the crappy visibility and limited interior space of the Z (that, and most Nissan dealers are complete sleaze to deal with, second only to Kia dealers).

But there are a lot of "if's" there. A lot can happen between now and 2022. The only thing certain about the COVID19 world is that things will turn out differently than anyone expects. No one knows what will happen. Nissan is on very shaky financial ground, and teetering on the verge of bankruptcy.

I hope Nissan makes it, and really does introduce a new Z, both because the world needs more sports/sporty Japanese cars, and because I have fond memories of various Datsun and Nissan products I've owned over the years (yeah, I'm that old that I remember, and actually owned, Datsuns).

The original Datsun 240Z is a legend, the iconic Japanese sports car. Jag XKE looks and beauty with Japanese build quality and reliability - and a much more affordable price. It was one of the Great Cars of All Time. It would be terrific to see another one.

Until then, there's no shortage of fun driving my BRZ.

More (bad) financial news for Nissan:

https://jalopnik.com/the-other-shoe-...san-1843727861

I truly hope they're able to pull through, and produce a new Z. But hemorrhaging so much money, it's a question if they can even survive at this point, much more come up with the cash to develop what will be a niche specialty sports car that would only have a trivial impact on sales. They need big-selling mainstream cars (= SUVs and Crossovers), not a sports car.

I (selfishly) hope they do it anyway.
