ewww... at those pics. Stop nibbling on them or spraying them with bodily fluids guys!

C'mmon!

In all seriousness, you guys ever cut your nails? Almost at 20k here and steering wheel looks brand new. Might smell like Cheetos though.

It's one of the few car parts I use Armor All protective wipes on.

Try 303 Aerospace instead. It's better for the materials and can be used on almost any unpainted parts of the car (trim, engine, etc).

2013, 33k, and this just happened Wednesday at the end of a 2 hour drive. Did not notice anything previously. I thought it was just 3 years worth of dead skin funk built up, so I licked my thumb and rubbed the spot a little (oh boy) and it started peeling right away.

No solvents or lotions on my hands, just sweat from barreling through Chicago traffic. Hoping Subaru warranties this for me like they have most of y'all.

Do you use that high gloss armorall. If you do, stop using it. It will mess up an interior. I use the regular no gloss.

For those who are out of warranty, the full proof way of preventing this issue is a steering wheel cover (The least tacky: Black neoprene stretch steering wheel cover).
Yes it doesn't look the best, but I daily my car and it prevents sun damage and normal wear and tear. In fact, the cover adds some thickness to the wheel that I grown quite fond of (no pun intended).

I think this is one of those cases where "they all do it" is actually true. My previous experience with a DD with a leather steering wheel (1999 Miata, 70miles/day) pushed me to buy a pair of deer skin, fingerless driving gloves. I sometimes feel like a douche for driving with gloves but my palms get sweaty after a while which I think is what causes the leather to break down faster...

My warranty just expired and my wheel it peeled like mad one day. Time to go aftermarket I guess. The steering wheel is pretty bad quality.

Just had mine swapped under warranty ... but the bozo put the new one on crooked !! Ugghh Geeze now I need to go back .

Is it too hard to expect the wheel to be flat and aligned when the tires are straight ?

Old thread, but I'll chime in and say that mine peeled at the 12 o'clock position - something I assumed my wedding ring played a part in (its right where it would rub on the wheel).
I'll catch shit for this, but I just wrapped the top section of the wheel with red bicycle handlebar tape....problem solved, and it matches the red trim.

2014 BRZ peeling wheel

First time I noticed a little gouge on mine was just after a service appointment. I thought it was from a service tech's ring or something. A lot going on at the time so I never took it back to get fixed, fast forward and the wheel is peeling in other spots as well. In places I almost never put my hands so it's not just form skin oils or anything. Sounds like this is an issue with these. I'm out of warranty so I'll probably look into some other kind of cover that I can stitch up after removing this one that's hopefully not junk.

Mines peeling where my sweaty mitts usually land. I peeled it further. It doesn't bother me any more.
