I didn't see a requirement for it to be 4cyl in what i read... but id argue its harder to do with a larger displacement v8 anyways.

No one would do this with a 4cyl now because its not efficient compared to turbocharging, has nothing to do with it being impossible, just stupid to bother doing so.

This was the topic of discussion that started the whole "it is possible" thing. The fact that other larger engines can do it is irrelevant to the conversation about the possible engine used in the next gen since the only know fact is that it will be a 4 of some type.

Not if they bring back the h6!! Lol

We have no "facts" right now... well besides production on the first gens is done pretty much.

That other forum's creditably is questionable at best and totally laughable at worst yet their "info" has spread through the clickbaits like wildfire. Why? Because they say what a lot of people want to hear.

From the other forum:

Don't even have that as a "fact". No source of info, no matter how reliable, has facts until Toyota or Subaru releases information supporting it. They may be informed guesses and completely correct but they are not "facts".

Well sorta.... go try to order one. From what I've heard, good luck if its not a car already made.

In theory they shouldnt be retooling yet but COVID probably gave them a good reason to.. or to retool for mini trucks since there is no 2nd gen

Bingo!

I have been saying this for weeks now and just had the Toyota fanbois shouting me down because they are too good a company to have issues through this.

Production for Europe has already finished. A friend wanted to place an order (no stock available) and it was not possible anymore. This happened last week. It is not an official release information, but this is the current status.

What is always missed in this conversation is that the origin story of the power for the vehicle doesn't matter. The regulations don't take that into consideration. All that matters is what the car itself produces out it's tailpipe, or lack thereof.

Not entirely true, it's just collected in a different way. Quite a few states charge an annual fee on EVs for road use. Not sure its 100% equivalent to the average road tax paid in the state each year but it's a start.

...and pretty sure BRZ Gen1 production for North America is done, just went into the Subaru ordering system and there is no option to order any model currently as cars are being allocated as produced. The order system has been shut down due to Covid-19 so it is difficult to judge anything based on that.

We are currently only getting Forester, Crosstrek, WRX & BRZ models delivered as US production has been shut down (Outback, Legacy, Ascent, Impreza).

I did a search of all 2020 BRZ's on the ground or in transport in the Southeast U.S. region, there are only 80 to be had. We currently have one in stock (Silver, 6MT PP) and one on the way.

Is the other one silver too? I just checked my local dealer yesterday and they have a silver PP and another silver on the way.

How is the release date "confirmed"? Is there a real document someplace or is it just based upon that one "leaked" slide? Even that (if real) is probably not accurate anymore anyway.
The only thing on there that has been officially "confirmed" is that they planned to make one.
