Yes, I meant currently. I only know old Toyota 3S-GE BEAMS 2.0L made about 200 hp and, of course, Honda F20C.

(GR86) Second Generation FR-S/BRZ insider info...

The list is short for stock motors; here’s the ones I remember: Honda F20C, BMW S70 and S54, a few older Ferraris (458 most recently) and the Porsche GT3 motors.

I would like to know what modern four cylinder engines are out there that break the 100HP per litre N/A barrier while still meeting the 2020 environmental requirements. Even the current engine will not meet the requirements for new build in 2022. By 2025 it will be damn near impossible to have a high revving NA engine of any type.
Come on now, electric motors can rev quite high.

All out of production with one of the main reasons being they could no longer meet the legal requirements. There is no getting around the controls that they have to have now and it only get's worse over the next 5 years whether some people want to believe it or not.

This is what you youngsters need to wrap your head around not how even your bestest, favouritest engine from 1996 can be made even better and thrown in a modern car by the manufacturer.

Oh god no wonder governments are so screwed up! The last place I would judge the public opinion is from Facebook.

I read an article recently that pointed out that hybrid gas/electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles are, in many cases not environmental friendly at all compared to hydrocarbon driven vehicles.

The key point being HOW the electricity is generated in the first place. There are, for example, many oil and coil fired power plants throughout the US.

In Canada as well, wind, solar and all renewable sources of energy still represent only a small percentage of the electricity we generate. In Ontario we're slowly getting out of nuclear, but traditionally it has been the cleanest (and in Canada) safest source of electricity generation. Quebec has a lot of hydro electricity.

But, the question is, what is the source of electricity where you live? It might (or might not) be what you expect, with renewable contributing 10% of the total in many cases, with combustion providing a significant proportion in some places. So, you can blow it out your tailpipe at home, or blow it out a chimney 200 miles upwind. And on top of that, the added environmental impact of stripping the light metals used in current generation batteries.

Hybrids and the power grid have not necessarily been scaled together to achieve a common carbon goal. Vehicles refueling off the grid in any significant proportion puts a huge load on the system. There are solid state batteries in development, along with timing charge cycles to work with the grid and further renewable contribution to the grid necessary for hybrid electric vehicles to actually be as "clean" as the public has been told it is.

Small displacement turbo engines are (a big thing) in the future. The oil industry isn't ready to ramp down to a tiny fraction of it's output, not soon. And the utility companies in many places have big goals to meet for the picture to be completed. California is an example a need for a greater proportion of clean power.

I'm betting on a 1.6L turbo when the 2024 model makes it to market...hopefully it does make it.

Lol what? Even ford makes an engine that breaks 100hp/l NA (and stock)

Porsche does also.

Not impossible for a current engine to do so.
