I think it depends. Agree it's definitely the cheapest option, but on my mk6 GTI, the brake-based brake vectoring system (VW calls it "XDS") is pretty good on the street at stock power levels and especially with decently sticky tires. It's seamless and a noticeable improvement over most FWD open-diff cars. Mk5 GTI is a great comparison since it's nearly the same chassis, but pre-XDS.

Where I find XDS struggles is on the track, where it quickly puts a ton of heat into the brakes. Once that happens, the brakes start to go and the power-on understeer increases. But I don't really hold that against the XDS system since track driving is outside the scope of intended use.

All things equal, I'd definitely rather have XDS than go without it.

Focus RS is 2.3L, and the problems are in the manufacture--not the displacement.

Koenigsegg 2.0 3-cylinder 600hp, just saying...

I wouldn't include a koenigsegg in this discussion. Unobtanium for most. No replacement for displacement if you work for a living

It was just an example. Here is another. There were many different power levels available over the years for the Evo. Just saying, a 440hp 2.0T from the factory:

I have seen it once on the road, and I have driven by it at the dealership. It doesn't jump out at me like the 86 did. The 86 called me over to it, but I just haven't been interested in the Supra.

I prefer the sharper lines on the fenders of the 86 than that 90's soft lines of the Supra. I am not a fan of the cuts and folds of the car, specifically the horizontal line that separates the clamshell hood and the lower front fender, nor do I like the side eyebrow shaped insert on the door. I don't like all the fake vents. I am not a fan of the three large front intakes or the stoutness of the protruding nose. I don't like the duckbill tail, the lines of the tail lights or the way the rear looks like it is frowning. I like the headlights, and I like the double bubble top. I hear bad things about A pillars in the cabin and the door height. Lack of a manual transmission really puts me off.

As far as the dimensions, I like the side profile the best, but that is about it. The fact that the wheelbase is shorter than the 86 by 4'', but the body length is longer by 6'' makes for odd looking overhangs, especially in the front; the MKIV had long overhangs too. The rear has a frown to it like I mentioned before, but in general, the rear fenders and rear lid are too low compared to the MKIV Supra and 86; both of those cars have their rears up higher than their hoods. Because of that, they look more muscular. The MKV Supra looks like its rear is droopy or squatted.

With all that said, the car seems made for wide body kits because I am normally not a huge fan, but it is much improved with the aftermarket treatment. A subtle lip for the duckbill spoiler on like the Speed Hunter kit would be nice. Wider fenders break up the frown and fix the front fenders.

2021 Toyota Supra news dump: New variants, relationship with BMW, 2021 model timing

https://www.supramkv.com/threads/new...s-delays.5212/

https://www.autoblog.com/2020/05/04/...ta-supra-news/

Quote:
Toyota held a news briefing today on the 2021 Toyota Supra for the press. It threw a bunch of information out, including details on how it intends to keep the model fresh every year, the company’s ongoing relationship with BMW, and when we should expect to see the refreshed 2021 Supra models hit dealerships.

Keeping Supra fresh
Jack Hollis, Toyota Group VP and GM, bolstered our learning about new Supra versions and changes coming down the road. The goal is to avoid sales hitting a wall and falling off over time.

“Our goal with the launch was to start there and keep it as flat as possible. We’d like to grow it, but that’s very difficult over time,” Hollis says. “The goal here is lifecycle management … going from one Supra to two Supras is a good way for us to go. Yes, there are some things down the road. There are some other lifecycle management tools that we believe will help us keep a flatter line versus the segment trend.”

Toyota sold about 2,900 units for the 2019 calendar year. The Supra went on sale July 22, and Toyota says the average transaction price was about $56,000-$57,000 in 2019.

“We don’t really put sales objectives on Supra,” Hollis says. “We look at it as this kind of halo vehicle that is plus business for the brand and for our dealers. We’re really pleased with the sales.”

Relationship with BMW
Much ink has been spilled about the relationship between Toyota and BMW concerning the Supra. Now that the car is launched, though, we were eager to learn how that relationship was getting on.

“As we go over time, there is more of a separation,” Hollis says. “While we still are bouncing our ideas off each other and sharing our information, we make an agreement to go our separate ways. ... It’s not devoid of conversation. It’s not devoid of engineering … chief engineer Tada and his team stay in pretty constant contact with BMW on features.”

Ben Haushalter, Toyota's senior manager of vehicle product planning, provided further details on how things were progressing.

“Toyota is still wholly responsible for the tuning and chassis setup on this car,” Haushalter says. “We have a team of engineers stationed in Munich that work side-by-side with BMW guys.”

When will we see the 2021 car?
Nick Miller, Toyota’s marketing manager, shed some light on when the 2021 Supra would launch. Unsurprisingly, the coronavirus has impacted Toyota’s plans, and the car is delayed.

“The plant that builds Supra right now, Magna Steyr, is closed right now due to COVID-19,” Miller says. “So it depends on when that plant is going to come back up. That should be in the next couple of weeks here, from what we understand. Before that plant shut down, we did have 400 model year 2021s built, and they’re on water now and on their way to the U.S.”

Those 400 2021 Supras will go on sale in June this year, but the four-cylinder hasn’t started production yet. As of now, it’s slated for July, and Toyota says it won’t arrive in the U.S. until fall. That amounts to a one- or two-month delay, based on Toyota’s previous launch schedule.

I don't have full info, but iirc 2.0 ver do have optional stuff... but don't think e-suspension and e-dif were one of the package option.

The 2021 Supra 2.0 offers much more than a lower price point. At 3,181 pounds, it is more than 200 pounds lighter than the Supra 3.0 while maintaining that model’s exemplary near 50:50 weight distribution. That’s because the weight reduction is spread throughout the car:

The Supra 2.0 uses smaller front brake rotors than the Supra 3.0 (330mm x 24mm vs. 348mm x 36mm), and with single-piston calipers vs. four-piston.
The Supra 2.0 does not have the Active Differential and Adaptive Suspension used on the 3.0 model.
A four-speaker audio system is standard, vs. the Supra 3.0’s 10-speaker system.
Supra 2.0 seats are manually adjustable, vs. 14-way power-adjustable in the 3.0.
The Safety and Technology Package is new for MY21 and will be available on the 2.0 and 3.0 grades. That package includes:

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (Full speed)
Blind Spot Monitor (BSM)
Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
Parking Sensors with Emergency Braking Function
Navigation
12-speaker 500-watt JBL Audio System
Wireless Apple CarPlay® compatible (iOS only)
Supra Connected Services: up to four-year trial includes Remote Services, Remote Maintenance, Automatic Emergency Call, Real Time Traffic Information, Concierge, Stolen Vehicle Recovery, and Map Updates.

The Driver’s Assist Package will still be an available option on the 3.0 Premium and A91 Edition. That package includes:
Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (Full speed)
Blind Spot Monitor (BSM)
Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
Parking Sensors with Emergency Braking Function
