It's pretty cool, (or warm haha) I had to Google it but yeah it looks neat.

It’s a best investment... so my wife claims. She always claims, Kotatsu is a black hole. Once you go in, you won’t come out lol

Yeah I'm not telling my Fiancée about this or she will demand it immediately.

Interesting, I had to google that too.

I understand that back in the day in some Asian cultures, they used to use charcoal pits under the table for a source of heat.

I wonder if that's what gives some Asians in this area the idea that they can use a charcoal BBQ for a source of heat inside their homes and wind up asphyxiating themselves?

I remember that back in my college days, some of the guys would make one of those out of a card table covered with a blanket. People would stick their heads underneath it. The source of heat was someone smoking a joint.

I miss my waterbed.
It was super warm and comfy in the winter and nice and cool in the summer.
(Plus, back in the day... it was great fun to get the mrs. bouncing nudge, nudge, wink, wink!)

Kotatsu have been around way before US Asian cultures. iirc it started in Muromachi period (1300’s)... so unless you’re THAT old lol

Well, my recollection was that the Kotatsu origins begin with the Japanese cooking hearth, known as the irori.

Of course, even my long term memory, gets a little foggy that far back -
