Retreads, you remember, when you could see the cords on your car's tires and you decided it was time for different tires. Then you went to the junk yard but couldn't find four used tires the same size, then had to go to the used tire place and buy four brand spanken new retreads.

Right...my first 3 cars never knew anything but used and retreaded tires.

Yeah... wasn’t planning to spend THAT much, but after calculating, it came out to that.

They were supposed to be the same size? Next you will say they should have had the same tread pattern or something silly like that.

Well, the rim diameter should have been the same size, however the width of the tire didn't much matter. It was best not to put the used snow tires on the front though.

Of course, if one happened to be a whitewall, you could always flip it and put the black side out.

The finishing touch was to paint your "new" tires with tire black and coal oil.

Rim diameter didn't matter either as long as they were the same on the front or back.

Oh, I getcha.

Yes, the rim size could be different than what was on the car as long as the bolt pattern lined up.

What I was getting at is that it would be difficult to get a 15" tire to stick on a 16" rim -

Oh, BTW, how many patches can you put on a tube before you should get a new tube?

New what? Tubes, tires or rims?

Short story. My old 1948 Chev came with 16" rims. I found a set of 15" rims in the junk yard that had the same bolt pattern so I switched them.

Why? Because my uncle had a 1955 Chevrolet with 15" rims and he was always buying new tires because he had a long commute and used them up pretty quick. He would change them out when they had lots of good tread on them and he would give his hand me down tires to me -

Yes, it's ma nap time - ZZZZZZZZZZZZ
