Battery could die in 2 months for not driving?
Heya, my new 86 has only 400KM in it and parked inside garage. The problem is, I'm in overseas and can not go back to my country due to Corona-Situation. It is already 2 months now and I may need 1 more month to get back. How is the chances the battery will die? or any other problem I may face? Suggestion please.

Buy a battery tender and charge the battery before starting. Should be fine.

Nice to say “ buy a tender” but the poor dude isn’t even in his country.
Yes it will probably die. There are a lot of systems that create a parasitic draw on modern cars. If the car is planned to be down for a prolonged period either get a tender or unhook the battery. An unhooked battery will hold a charge for a surprisingly long time. For unplanned there is not much you can do but charge it up well when you get back. Hope you get home soon!

Yea, mine died when it sat for 1 month. Luckily battery was young enough at the time that it took a charge. Since yours is a 2020 model odds are it will take a charge when you get home. Good luck getting home.

Maybe he has got a friend that can do it? Disconnect is the easiest tender is the best.
edit: It is probable dead at this point, and most tenders will not charge a dead battery. A knowledgeable friend might be able to first charge then put a tender and save the battery. |

Thank you all. Is there any other problem may arise? I have heard that, brand new like cars should not be sitting for long. Bad for engine and transmission. Is it really applicable on my situation? Any precaution i should do once i reach home?
Also unfortunately i brought the key with me. Even in my home country kind of lockdown. No friends will be able help me i guess. But i have asked few, less chance i may get them. |

Your tires will need air, charge battery, top off with fresh gas, and you should be fine.

It may be dead. It's no big deal. When you get back, put a jumper pack on it. After it starts, take it for a 20 minute drive and the alternator will charge it completely. Dead batteries are little more than an annoyance, don't let it worry you.
Good luck getting home, sounds like an awful situation |

![]() I reckon it's gonna take an alternator a heck of a lot longer than 20 minutes to bring a dead battery back up to full charge. Maybe several hours, if at all. |

Yup. I hadn't driven mine since March 14th, until yesterday. Battery was at 10 volts. Slow charged and it started fine, then the tire light was on, as one tire was a 24 psi. Fixed that, it drove fine.

Long term with ethanol in gas can cause some issues. But I think a few months you will fine. If you know it will sit in the future you could put a product Stable into the gas. Just deal with it when you get back. I am sure you will be stoked to be home, see your family and car and put this thing behind us. Good luck.
