Looks like you have a 2017 like me. Now is a good time to check that you have the updated supercharger snout to clear the 2017 and up alternator connector. Look for a small notch in the underside of the snout casting (pulley side) where the alternator connector will be. Even though my kit was bough late-2019, it had the old snout and I didn't want to do the work-around on the connector receptacle and wiring harness described elsewhere in this thread. I took it to edelbrock and they were happy to replace it for the new one (thankfully I live close to them). Anyhow, even with the new snout the clearance to the wire is minimal, but you don't have to hack off your oem wiring connector for a cheap crimp spade or shave down the alternator side receptacle like you would with the old snout. Good luck with the install!

If you buy direct from Edelbrock, that may be true, but if you buy from a retailer who shelf stocks rather than uses a drop ship from the manufacturer, you may not be so lucky. Regardless of your source, it is a good idea to check the bypass and the snout (for 2017 and up cars) are both the revised designs before beginning an install. Also there should be a non-oiled version of the air filter. My kit bought from Summit Racing in late-2019 was signed off by quality in mid-2017, so even though the revised snout and filter had been out there for a couple years, there was and is no mechanism used to incorporate these necessary revisions into kits on retailers shelves. Thankfully Edelbrock customer service took very good care of me but this could have been a major annoyance to remedy if I didn't live within driving distance of them.

i'll have to check the snout in the morning. I believe build date on my kit showed 12/2019 so lets hope all is good. But when you talk about the connector do you mean the wires that plug into the alternator to turn it and and such?? I'll have to take a look too since I have an aftermarket alternator on the car and already have some custom wiring on it.

Sounds promising with a build date that recent.
Yes, interference to the one wire connector on the alternator itself was the primary reason for the snout revision. Also with the OEM 2017+ alternator, the main terminal stud on the alternator will also need to be reclocked, clockwise when viewing from the front of the car, for the terminal assy to clear the intake runner. This requires minor trimming of the alternator rear side plastic cover to widen the hole where the stud housing exits the cover. The revised snout doesn't help with this issue and it is unknown to me if Edelbrock has made any revisions to the runner castings to fix it. Since you stated you have an aftermarket alternator and custom wiring these may or may not be issues for you. |

The red arrows in the pictures below show the clockwise reclocking of the terminal stud assembly needed to clear the intake runner. You can see the trimming needed to the alternator plastic rear cover in the second picture. The terminal assy almost points straight up in the OEM configuration.
The blue arrow shows where the snout relief was made for the one wire connector. While not necessary, I depinned the connector and put a piece of shrink sleeve over the wire and then repinned it so I would have double insulation on the wire. |

Thank you for the info on this. I’ll pay attention as the install progresses for these potential issues. I have a friend helping me do the install who’s put it on his car a few times. Although he has a pre 17 model.

Wow! No wonder you need the supercharger, to offset the power drain from the alternator. Lol.
You know, you might actually be ok. That looks like a pre-17 based alternator.

You know I believe you’re right. I think singer alternators used the older version for the housing. That’s why I had to wire it up different.

I bought mine from Summit Racing as well, back in August of last year.
I never confirmed if it was the new revised model, but I assumed it would be. Here is a photo of the snout and alternator on the 2018. It’s very tight, but nothing’s being forced.

Yeah, that's the revised snout design. I wish my kit bought around the same time came that way too. It's hard to tell from the picture but it does look like your runner has a relief in it on the left side of the terminal. I can't recall my runner having that. I wonder if that's why yours just clears. I'll have to go look at mine tomorrow morning while I continue my lockdown projects. I'm replacing the AT 4.1 diff with a 4.3 diff from a MT 2018.

I'm very happy with it! However, I wished Edelbrock was more transparent about the changes between models as well as the revised bypass valve.
It's sad that you have to dig around forums to find the info then email them privately - no info on their website either! ![]() If I knew of the future development of the bypass valve issue, I may have held off my purchase. It took me nearly a month between work, business trips and house projects to install mine myself in my garage. Since the new bypass valve requires a complete reinstall, I may just bite the bullet and hope for the best on my current unit and hope it never fails.

I checked my runner this morning and sure enough, it's just a round whereas yours seems to have a relief notch in it. That may be why yours clears the terminal and mine didn't.
Regarding the updated bypass I would certainly take a look at yours and see what may be on it given the late purchase. If it's the old one and running fine, I agree, I would not bother replacing it until after it showed signs of going bad. Yeah, I hear you on the disappointment. My SC had to go on and off several times to deal with these issues and I too am only one person doing the install in my free time. That said, I am also very happy with the eforce. As far as aftermarket goes, this is a pretty well developed kit (save for some of these issues with the model year changes, the AC port blockage and the rough CARB tune). Truthfully, without the existence of this kit, I would have never bought an 86. For me, this car was just unacceptable in terms of acceleration that I abandoned the idea of buying one after the first test drive. However since the rest of the car was exactly what I was looking for, when I stumbled on this particular SC, and carrying CARB legal status, the car became possible for me. I have used lots of Edelbrock heads, intakes and such on my other builds so I knew this kit would be quality so I took a huge gamble and bought the car and the kit. With the the Delicious Tune on the car, it really feels like an OEM installed bigger engine. You never wait for power. It's just power everywhere. I use this car as a daily and routine trips to Mammoth mountain. The AT can now climb the mountain in only 6th gear. Before the SC I had to go down to 4th! That and a setrab trans cooler and the car deals with the extended hill climbs fabulously. |
