i think one of the mods said we're pretty much getting Japan's SZ Supra, but with the more powerful SZ-R tune.

I think that is what we will be getting, the SZ-R spec with:

--2.0T 255hp/295tq
--5mm taller
--140lbs lighter
--Floating front/rear calipers
--18'' rims
--Standard LSD
--Standard Suspension
--Interior/Exterior differences

I also thought the lower models were going to be available with a manual in Japan, but I see nothing on their website mentioning a manual transmission, so it is safe to bet that this will likely never happen.

I like the rims better on the SZ-R than on the RZ. It obviously doesn't sound as good. The Alcantara on the seats is actually better to me than all leather. The RZ had two tiers on the JBL system, and this is a big bump down when going to the SZ-R, but I could see people getting into this if they prefer lighter weight, static suspension and a more basic platform, but this still wouldn't be a buy for me without the manual. That is the number one component of a sports car for me. If it had a manual then the Supra, along with the 2nd gen twin, possibly the new Z and the Cayman would be all cross-shopped as my next car when I get into a new car.

A small correction about the video tire commentary. The 2.0 actually has 45 series Micheline's that should give a more compliant ride than the 3.0 40 series if that matters. It will matter come replacement time. The 18's are $75/tire less than the 19's according to Tire Rack.

The more I learn about the 2.0, the more I'm liking it. If it comes with some sort of LSD and MSRP <$40K, it'll make my short list.

3.0 is on 255/35-19 and 275/35-19, 2.0 is on same-diameter 255/40-18 and 275/40-18. You can see it on the sidewall for the rear tire in the vid...

I'm more interested in this one than the 3.0 If no LSD, aftermarket will provide, but I bet it will have some kind of non-active limited slip.

I have no doubt the 4 cylinder Supra sold in the US will have a (conventional) LSD as standard equipment.

Which for a well balanced car is all you really need. Plus it's lighter than an electronic active LSD.

Yeah, that's a shame.

In the future, I'll likely exclude the Supra from any cross-shopping unless I get an injury to my left leg or something.

Exactly why I'm even considering the 2.0 that would become the first A/T sports car I've ever owned.

I've spent nearly half of the past couple of years in PT for various sports injuries and recently decided to enter preservation mode.

That's not to say if I do get a 2.0 that I'd resent the lack of an M/T choice. I'd look forward to trail braking while flipping paddles and think it could be an advantage on short, technical tracks and especially auto-x if the A/T responds quickly enough.

Last year I might have posted differently but change and adaptation is a constant in life so I changed the most important factor, my attitude, and will be OK with a good A/T like the ZF.

FWIW, one of the friends I made in Japan gets to test drive cars like this one early (the 2.0). He normally tracks and drifts events in a manual 86.

The way he was telling me about the 2.0 he really enjoyed it, and he was saying the handling was really good.

I'm sure not having a manual option sucks, but considering the kind of work my friend does he sounded like he really did have a fun time with it.

Honestly for myself, if it wasn't a question of money and parking spaces I'd just get an AT Supra and keep the MT BRZ . Both are mechanically different enough from each other to make things interesting.

Agreed, but I just don't want to hear it from that reviewer, he is terrible.
