Been missing gyudon from Japan, and for whatever reason you can't really get it here except premade at the japanese grocery store, but it's not great.

So I made my own tonight using ingredients from that japanese store:



Followed the Serious Eats recipe for it. Super easy to make but I will definitely make my own adjustments for next time.

Interesting, have to try that, as I love beets.

Usually if I make them myself I use either the brine from a dill pickle jar, or even better, buy a jar of pickled sausage, eat the sausage then use the brine to make picked eggs.

The beets and vinegar thing is very upscale from that!

Sausage thing sounds pretty good actually.. but yeah man treat yourself you deserve it! You won't be disappoint.
