Having traffic is the whole point of driving manual, up shifting and downshifting as traffic changes. And when you get comfortable, your muscle memory makes shifting automatic anyways so you don't even think about it. Driving with no traffic would be boring, just staying in a single gear for long periods of time. No difference between driving an automatic vs driving a manual at 6th gear the whole time if you are on the highway. I drive in Toronto and have no problem with a manual. As an "enthusiast" car, in a world where more and more cars are going automatic only, it is an oxymoron to buy this car for it to drive like any automatic compact / SUV.
No judgement, but the people who bought an automatic either -Were not comfortable driving a manual (Which is fine) -Didn't buy the car with their own money and had to share the car with their mom or sister Facts. |

Was the only one available in what I wanted unmolested 2014 MY15 or 2015, 2016 GTS in white.
Ive been looking for a year.....no one is selling their manuals in my state. Also I didn't want issues with TOB. I did think of buying it in another state and driving back but cant get time off work and doesn't work out financially. Last edited by Halo_2; 03-21-2020 at 09:52 PM. |

I also bought automatic since there were no manuals in the dealer and this previous year's monogram was at a special price. Now if I were buying again, I would buy AT as first choice. Works great with more power.

I believe it was a normal part of his technique that he developed early on. He was known to do it in the turbo F1 cars as well to help keep the turbo spooled. Some of the cars he drove, like the batshit 98T, had ridiculous lag matched to the insane power they made in qualifying trim.

No regrets. Not for a daily. It's a great little transmission. I prefer manuals in my old vintage cars though. Perfectly happy to just chill in this one.

Plenty of reasons to buy an automatic. For me, I have a bad ankle, and now have two bad knees. Car does everything I want it to without a third pedal. And the extra great thing is that I don't need to worry about what transmission anyone else chose, and because of that, I don't need to make condescending posts about it, either. Out of curiosity, do you do track days, autox, time attack, anything other than street driving? Edit: Holy shit, I also totally missed the fact you said the POINT of having a manual is to drive in traffic? Pretty sure driving in traffic defeats the point of having an "enthusiast" car. I'm not sure where the oxy falls here, but I definitely see where the moron falls. Last edited by Cole; 03-22-2020 at 12:24 AM. |

The people who buy automatics either: - Have a debilitating condition that prohibits them from driving a manual - Actually hate the idea of constantly shifting in stop-and-go traffic (contrary to what you think) Also facts for some owners, but not always facts for all owners, just like your own presumptions. And before you make fun of me for driving an automatic, I don't: I drive a manual FR-S, and have driven mainly manuals since I first started driving. Not once did I ever feel the need to put down somebody for choosing an automatic over a manual. I really hope you learn to start doing the same, because quite frankly, the whole auto vs. manual argument is long past being old at this point. |
