Everybody just leave the damn bird alone. It isn't an injured puppy it is a pigeon having a rest. No need to go netting it or breaking it's legs with chicken hooks or interfering with it in any way.

No way, I say we get a posse together and get this bird. Since when do we let a bird boss us around? If some little bird legs
have to get broken then so be it! I'm electrifying my chicken hook and not taking any chances with that avian bastard. |

Nature-1, Pigeon-Ø
Last night I kept the garage doors open, food and water on a workbench hoping it would come in to roost but nada. No other nocturnals I could see or smell either, a good thing.
Then I did a walk around the property and saw the white feathers scattered under a feeding station. Most likely, one of the many raptors around here got it. I've seen it before and it's quite a sight when one drops out of the sky at Vmo, wings and landing gear folded then at the last moment before impact extends its talons and strikes, sending the prey tumbling across the ground where it becomes frozen in shock. The raptor then hops over to the prey and either flies off with it or eats it on the spot. In the back yard, rabbits, squirrels and doves have met their demise that way usually from a kestrel, peregrine falcon or bald eagle. I wouldn't be surprised if cats are also on the menu, we don't have strays around here for long. If it was a homing pigeon and not someone's pet, my theory is that it may have gone off course from the documented magnetic deviation in this area if they use an internal compass. Nobody knows for sure if they use that, the sun, ELF or what to navigate though. |

Not once have I ever seen a banded bird in the wild. You did what you could. Good on you for even considering it.
