I did a research report on the state of Utah in like 4th grade... Or 5th, or 6th? Idk. Anyway we were all given a state and mine was Utah. Mostly just teaching us how to do a research paper and then "creatively" present it. First and last time I ever attempted stand up comedy...

whoops! I'm getting my measures all mixed up, because it wasn't quiiite that big. ha. I think it should be ~4k square feet, not yards. Still decently big, half our back yard. I was always thinking about ordering yards of mushroom compost and stuff as we tried to improve the soil, and my brain just went dead. It's been a while!

We typically had 120+ tomato plants, beans, peppers, corn, potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic, various squash and melons, asparagus, various herbs, lettuce ... um. we did artichokes once (had to 'trick' the starts into thinking they'd over-wintered). Plus a couple apple trees and a peach tree (would get 50+ fruit per tree), unsuccessful blueberries, strawberries... and gobs of flowers.

We never bought any of the stuff we grew except apples and artichokes, during the time we were growing. Canning and freezing and storage, we'd go all year on most of it. But still so much we had to buy (dairy, flour, coffee, meat...)

I'd love to get back to a big garden, but I don't see it happening. Unlikely my wife will ever want to move out of prison. I mean, the city. Where our lot is only 25x120...
