Next Gen BRZ thoughts

I don't often want for more HP but I would very much like another 100 pounds of torque. I want to be able to stand on it in 3rd or 4th and make it jump not toodle it's way up. I've never been a rev hound, I prefer mid range grunt. I had an old Willys Jeep with a built Buick V6 that pushed 215hp to the rear wheels (in 2wd) but it was near 300 tq and that thing would roar from 40 mph up in 4th when I needed it to. Unfortunately it ran out of gear in the high 50's but damn if it wasn't a monster up to it's max.

The fact that there is a fairly large aftermarket for upping the power is because Toyota/Subaru shared the plans for the car with the aftermarket suppliers well in advance since they said outright it would never be a high HP car. 220-240 would be fine too. I'll buy the next gen if it makes that stock. It's subjective for sure but 300 hp is far from "just a numbers" game territory for me. More hp is more acceleration in all gears/conditions. This would be less of an issue if the engine and trans were more reliable when an aftermarket 300 hp is bolted on.

If you think 3400 lb cars are an option then you don't understand why I bought an 86.

That is just it though. For the 86 to have 300HP it is probably going to end up being a 3400 lb car. They can not just slap a bigger engine in it and call it a day. That sort of HP requires changes throughout the car. You think they didn't try to keep the weight down on on the Supra? There are reasons it weighs what it does.

Countless, countless, threads from pre release arguing / begging for turbo. It's a, seemingly now, never ending cycle.

$37,482 Is the highest you can option a BRZ. That is a tS with every accessory minus the cargo mat and organizer which cannot be added with the more expensive kicker subwoofer.

$37,037 is the highest non tS model package.

I have a simple request could they make the keyless entry actually work decently next time? I just bought a Mazda3 for a commuter car and the keyless entry in that car works flawlessly.

Doesn't work with the key in the pocket and spotty even if you hold it close. Done it since new, does it with both keys, new batteries, etc. I usually just use the lock and unlock buttons on the fob.

That's strange. I had my fob in my pocket of my hoodie with a vest over the top of that this morning and it worked just fine

The economy of scale comparison stands. Having the parts bin pieces and being able to use them are not the same thing.

Exactly. I just got a 2017 GTI Sport as my new DD and within a few weeks had an APR Stage 1 tune performed. Car now makes 300hp 330 lb-ft of torque. And I'm done - have no desire to do anything else.

I don't get the argument of this at all? Wanting a turbo BRZ doesn't mean you want all the crap that is available as options on other models (or dealer installed).

Again, what's the point (I know you're prob just replying to the above). You can also option out an Impreza more than a WRX. You can option out a EcoBoost Mustang more than a GT. You can option out a Camaro V6 more than an SS. You can (could?) option out a Ford Focus hatchback over the price of a Focus ST.

So what? Means nothing.

What modifications are required that would add significant weight? The current factory engine is fine with different internals, so negligible weight gain there. A factory turbo or TVS blower, stronger trans internals, stronger driveshaft and axles, would be ~100 lbs. Maybe another 50 lbs for thickening up the diff cage and rear chassis attachments. Where does the other 450 lbs come from?

I know by limiting it to auto-trans only an additional ~100-120 lbs of weight loss was passed over, so yeah, I have an idea of how hard they tried on that car. The Civic Type R has ~300 hp, 4 doors, is longer, taller, and wider than a Supra, and weighs ~3100 lbs (and yes, I know it's an FWD car). The Golf R has ~300hp, 4 doors, and AWD, and also weighs less than a Supra, so again, I don't see why I should believe 300 hp in a BRZ is an outlandish request. Sure, it wouldn't weigh 2800 lbs, but it's not going to balloon up to 3400 or likely even halfway there.
