The amount i paid included the fed gas tax. I don't know if there is a charge at the federal level. Since the fed tax comes back to the states (in theory) not sure how it plays into it.

Yea, methane is worse, but CO2 might be easier to change. If switching to EVs is this hard then imagine how hard it would be to switch everyone to vegan. Just a note, the waste from the BMW plant in South Carolina goes to a field and the methane produced from the field gets used by the plant to generate around 50% of the energy, if I can remember correctly from the tour.

I've actually worked on some methane generators at farms. They are nasty but work well.

I noticed you used ''ism'', as if it were a belief, system, philosophy or a complete way of life and not just a meal preference. If you did that intentionally then the hardest part about being vegan or vegetarian in all aspects of life is this:

It varies from about 30% to as much as 60% depending on the conditions so 50% would probably be the average they say on the tour. I spent two days there on a team studying the system to see if we could adapt something similar to our transmission plant down the road. We didn't generate enough methane to make it feasible but did get some other ideas.

Converting to EVs will not be as difficult as people on this forum think. The people here are die hard ICE fans that just can not accept that there are more people out there with totally different outlooks than they have.
