All the phone lines in our place were cat5. I switched the jacks around and it's now actually ethernet...


Need to see if I can recover one of the old garbage intercom/doorbell lines to run a line forward from where the lines all enter the house so I can put in a second wifi router on the dmz to cover the front half of the house.


Still have breakers I haven't sorted out where they go, and one ceiling fan that just seems dead...


houses and wiring are always frustrating.

I suggest you just ignore all of the old cables in your house and wire it up fresh.

We have lived in our house for over 25 years. The first owner had cable wired into the house when it was built (so it appears). After we moved in and over the years, I have run cables to every room (including the bathrooms) for various reasons.

About 2 years ago, our Internet/TV reception didn't seem to be working quite right so I had the Comcast (local cable provider) come out and look at it. He went into the basement and saw the maze of cables running everywhere and asked me what they were all about.

I told him that some of them I had no idea and the others I had forgotten why I ran them to where they went. He shook his head and suggested we start all over. So, after he found out where the TV was, where the phone was and where I wanted my modem, he wired them up all fresh.

Oh yes, also he did discover that the signal from the box up by the street to the box attached to the house was weak, so they ran new wires between the two.

(back in the day, it was simpler, we had 4 wires that were bundled and went to the phone and a flat cable thing that had two wires that went from the outside TV antennae to the TV (after we finally got a TV).

Looked it up and it came out in 75 so it was the year before I joined. I probably didn't actually see it until 76 though so still works.

My brother and I saw it dubbed in Hungarian that same summer in Budapest. I remember our cousins bugging us to explain the opening credits to them.

likely phone lines somewhere. it's extremely common to run cat5's for phone lines.

I'm thinken you should get rid of that BRZ of yours and get a Civic. There is this guy here on the forum that sells Civics that will be in touch (if he already hasn't been in touch with you).
