Not officially that I know of, but my boss already said he wants to take a walk/grab coffee or something on my last day away from the office for like an hour and a half to get feedback. I don't know how honest I'd like to be for it, so as not to burn any bridges.

Director said he'll put some time in my calendar to chat so I'm sure he'll want some feedback too.

Problem is, some of my issues are related to both of them but some of them are just growth or team-related.

Plus in the end, I've been at this company nearly 5 years, counting my internship time. I deserve a change of pace and the chance to work elsewhere. I feel like that's an easy, reasonable excuse to switch jobs.

Don't take a counter. You'll always wonder if it was the right choice, and they'll always think you're just greedy. They just don't work out for anyone. Resentment all-around in the end.

DO leave the door open. We call them boomerangs at work. A good company will be happy for your opportunity. A chance for you to grow at someone else's expense before they hire you back.

My manager seemed pretty ok about it. He obviously would prefer me to stay, but he sounded happy that I'm getting the opportunity.

The director on the other hand was kind of visibly upset, lol. I think he's happy for me too but definitely seemed much less excited for me to be leaving.

Doing the boomerang thing definitely seems like the right choice. I'm trying super hard not to burn bridges, because you just never know.

I've changed jobs several times in my career (7 times to be exact) The first two were layoffs, the others were my choice. I don't "do" exit interviews. There is absolutely no benefit to it for me. If you want to take me to lunch and wish me well, fine, but if you were interested in what I thought about the company you should have asked before I left. My answer is always "I'm leaving for personal and professional reasons I prefer not to discuss".

I also would not accept, nor as a boss do I offer, a counter to keep someone employed. As the employee, I've already decided to leave and it usually has nothing to do with money. As the employer, there is no real upside for me to countering. Sure you might be able to temporarily keep a trained and "known" employee, but if they have already decided to leave, money is only going to help for so long.

I am very upfront with the folks that work for me when discussing career growth. The bottom line is there are only two ways to get promotion. You have to wait until the right opportunity presents itself to move up, or you have to move out. I'm good with either one and will champion you for either.

When someone gives me notice, I congratulate them on their new position and I ask one question. "Do you mind sharing with me why you decided to leave so I can take that feedback and help others?" Answer, or not, that is the end of the conversation. I congratulate them, shake their hand and process the paperwork for their replacement.

I know that when I have changed jobs money was only part of the considerations (I will not say it was not part of it ever).
When I left my last position they offered me baskets of cash to stay. Their offer was for actually for more than I make now 8 years later! I must admit it was tempting but the HR manager's reaction (she was as dumb as a stump and a total bitch) of "well I guess you are just too good for us" when I said I would think about the offer instead of just taking it right away really clinched the matter.
