That sucks. Time to go to court. I know that there are oil passages in the engine that are smaller than those pieces. It wouldn't take much for one or two of those to be lodged in critical spots to wreck the engine.

This is one of the reason I just got rid of my 2013 BRZ. Did not want to take the risk of doing the recall and did not want to take the risk of a spring failure. Also, just moved to new state and only need one car now. (kept our 2018 CX5 for everyday use...great car!)

Hypothetically, say the car was still under warranty and I did some work myself that introduced some sealant into the engine. Then the engine began knocking and experienced catastrophic failure. Then say their mechanic removed the oil pan and inspected the pick up tube only to find the same quantity of sealant. Would their reply be "the mechanical failure of the motor has nothing to do with the presence of sealant you introduced"? "We will happily fix it under warranty." Hmmmm, I think their response would entirely different. |

I wonder how much you would like them if they fucked your car and then said they wouldn’t fix it , guaranteed you would be singing a different note . They are all great dealerships until they destroy your car and say it’s not their fault ......... but I digress ..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Alright. My local dealership has been getting really pushy lately, even calling me to try to schedule the recall fix. It's just super annoying. The women who call and leave messages are the kind who put question marks at the end of all their sentences. I imagine they're the type who know absolutely nothing about the odds of the fix working.
Sooooo....how are the odds? I never planned on having the fix done, especially after reading all the horror stories here. I really hope my state never requires the warranty work be done in order to license the car for the road. At this point I can't help but wonder if this has been blown completely out of proportion just to stimulate the economy by getting people into new cars? I don't know. I'm just annoyed that the dealership is suddenly making this into a big deal.

Update :
Doesn't seem to be engine related. Very minor silicone in pickup. The flexplate on the torque converter seems to be the issue (mine is an automatic). Waiting to have further discussion on the matter. link to pics here Will update Edit: seems there was similar issue reported on page 50 Last edited by nos145; 01-21-2020 at 03:49 PM. J02 Recall
I’m at 77k miles and my frs has been fine so do I even need to have the recall done? If I do should I upgrade the valve springs so then maybe it won’t blow?

The post-recall failure issues have nothing to do with the valve springs themselves, but are typically around the amount of sealant used in certain areas of the repair. This gets into the channels and cuts off oil supply to the engine, resulting in a failure. If your shop can show they have done these with no failures then you should be good. However, at 77K miles, it's unlikely you'll have the failure this recall "fixes". If it does fail, you may be able to get Toyota to cover the cost of that failure based on the wording of the recall. That's probably more of a crapshoot than getting the recall work done.
