My thought:
(1) Even if a prototype is shown in 2021, I doubt if it will be for sale before 2023. (2) History has shown that rushing a new model out leads to many, many significant quality problems. (3) Toyota has tried to spice up its line-up, even Camry and Corolla have become less boring. There is hope the new FT86 will keep its high performance bias. (4) I will not be surprised if it contains some electrification feature, eg a hybrid drive-train. (5) I am very happy with my 2019 FT-86, it is free of many bugs of early models. |

When American car companies change the working formula, they end up with the Pontiac Aztec. When Japanese car companies change the working formula, they end up with +0.2L engine displacement.
S2000 AP1 --> 2.0L S2000 AP2 --> 2.2L NSX NA1 --> 3.0L NSX NA2 --> 3.2L NSX Gen 2 > 3.5L (plus Porsche 918-like "hybrid" performance) Subaru has their own formula between NA and Turbo cars... If they didn't want to ruin the balance, I can see them dropping to a 1.8L and adding a turbo or SC to maintain the miles/smiles per gallon. It's pretty apparent that automakers are being pressured into designing more environmentally friendly mass-produced vehicles. Last edited by ROFL it's Waffle; 01-14-2020 at 09:40 AM. |

Pretty sure the 2nd Gen 86 / BRZ development is much further along than we all think, bet we'll see it fall of 2021 as a 2022. Subaru is an expert of hiding development and Toyota is pretty good as well.

There's no way they will make a high-power turbo 86... they have to keep it relatively slow as to not upstage the Supra

Thinking this as well. Plus they can't upstage WRX sales either.
