Have an almost empty tank. I'll be getting Shell V-Power 93 today, and I'll report back if I hear any difference.

^I'm close to empty too. My plan is to try like 2-3 gallons of different top-tier gas from a bunch of stations around town.

Last night after some spirited driving it came back loud and strong. The shell is not working as good as I thought. When this tank is almost empty I will try a true fuel gas station. See if no ethanol really helps. After that im going to pay for 94 octane race fuel for kicks.

After I revved to 4500 (not in neutral) about 10 times, the noise came back. ![]() The noise was gone for 3 days though, which was there 100% of the time with Chevron gas. |

I currently have the chirping/cricket noise (post 350mi mark). I plan on refueling with ethanol free gas see if that does anything... except finding a station that offers ethanol free gas is easier said than done.

Oh well, looks like we'll have to wait for a TSB to fix it.

You would SERIOUSLY conduct testing which would end up costing more of a headache (not to mention cash) to both yourself and the customer instead of just doing what is easiest and most fair - repairing the problem? YOU are what is wrong with Dealers these days. They would much rather go out of their way to pull some half ass CSI bullshit on customers in the hopes of denying warranty claims, instead of actually trying to fix the real issues! Please list your dealership so we can all give you crap reviews. |

for the dealer to deny a claim of a KNOWN PROBLEM, modded or not, you would have to be wayyyyy over the top. i would never deny a warranty claim for something like that. (im a service advisor for a dealer).
that being said, i would still not add anything in my gas, toyota/subaru must be well aware of the situation, and will provide a solution. |

the safe thing would be just to leave things alone untill there is a toyota approved repair. as bad as it sounds, IF there is a problem, dont try to fix it, just let it be and if that part gets damaged, being its a manufacture defect, it gets replaced for free providing ur still under warranty plain and simple. so just play the game basically =)

![]() I'm going back to adding 50ml of 2T lubricant on the next tank. I've gotta believe a blanket recall is coming on the fuel pump and I just can't believe that you'd be denied a new pump on the account of a 1:1000 ratio fuel additive. Most octane boosters are closer to a 1:500 ratio or even less. The point is, I'm adding lube to keep my sanity and to ensure that there is not a failure of that pump before Toyota/Subaru deem it important enough to fix.

Here in CT it seems ALL gas is 10% ethanol so even shell 93 gives me the chirps.
I tried Lucas Oil upper cylinder lube in my last tank with no change Looks like 2-cycle oil is what I'll stick with for now.

warranty basically means any part on the car that suffers any type of "manufacture defect" is qualified for warranty replacement provided its still within the manufactures specified warranty time and mileage limit. any evidence found that the part in question was tampered with raises red flags and is usually denied. even though it is a known problem and there isnt a fix yet, im sure we can all safely assume toyota is working on a fix. im just saying lets not give dealers a reason to give anyone a hard time when its recall time =) or hopefully in time there will be an upgraded HPFP option for the FRS through aftermarket =) |
