Mom's lexus RX350 has LKA (Lane Keep Assist); under normal driving conditions (user having control of the gas, brake and steering) it will vibrate the wheel if it notices the car is hitting the extremities of the lane. Once you activate Cruise Control, it uses the same system plus the crash prevention system, proximity sensors and blind spot monitoring to mimic a "autonomous" driving experience; the system has been designed to beep and alert if no weight is discovered on the steering wheel after 15 seconds. Under cruise control mode I have seen the car try to keep itself centered in the lane and had no issues regardless of lighting conditions. The system is from 2017, I am pretty sure most of the newer systems do this better.

My FRS also has autopilot mode but not electronic, it just hugs the crown of the road and jesus takes the wheel for you.

Mostly it's more slow than efficient with its Lycoming 0-235-N2C! But it's mine and it fits most the flying I do. If I need something faster, I rent.

This is a scenario where i could more realistically see mfg's making vehicles a subscription or lease format, where vehicle ownership goes away so the mfg has better risk mitigation by only using 1-2 year old models throughout their available fleet.

Or instead of spending billions on pushing new technology onto consumers we could just make it significantly more difficult to obtain a drivers's license. And/or require annual testing of driver proficiency. Teach basic laws of physics. Make people actually test out their ABS and stability control systems in controlled environments. But heaven forbid the responsibility actually falls onto an individual.

Driving isn't a right.

Understanding how and why things happen would not change anything. You can teach facts and data all day long it will not make people care. The US can't get people to learn cursive writing so how on earth do you expect them to understand physics? There are many hundreds of thousands that truly believe that the earth is flat.
As far as the arguments about the government forcing these things and raising costs go the same was said about seatbelts, airbags, antilock brakes, shatterproof glass, and probably even lights and turn signals. It is progress and will save more people than training ever will. In the overall scheme of the car manufacturing business the costs of these new items is not even a discernable blip.

Great looking plane! Like you said, impressive crosswind performance and I'd take it's climb rate over absolute speed here in the mountains any time. That would be a perfect weekend San Juan Island hopper for two. Have fun, good luck on your instrument rating.

People can't walk these days either. I went to a busy mall over the weekend to pick up a gift I couldn't get online and was walked into 5 times in less than two hours because people were on their phones.

On the bright side, two of them were worth being walked into....

My latest pet peeve. Whenever possible, I stop and watch them run into me. It's right up there with the gaggles of oncoming people that take up the whole hallway or sidewalk. I swear that it's deliberate passive aggression. People are assholes.
