Also, haven't had the issue in the 6 years I've owned it until this past month. 2004 Suburban ZL1.

a faulty charging system would have driveability issues over the course of a few hours as the battery goes dead, and he said he already replaced the battery, ruling both those out. those had generators, right? a lot easier to troubleshoot though!

Might check the battery case itself. When did you give it a good scrub up and clean?
Try disconnecting it and test from the neg. over to almost but not quite the pos. on the top.

in the great words of AvE, batteries are angry pixie containment devices. alternators are angry pixie movers. sometimes, the pixies get angrier than the movers or the containers are designed for!

my parents have had a '94 and a '99 (technically a late-production '98), both have had issues with random grounds from time to time rotting out. so if the alternator doesn't show anything, i'd definitely try locating and inspecting the various grounds that are exposed to the elements within the engine bay. one time, the starter ground came loose, and through whatever voodoo, the shortest electrical path for the power was through the 18 gauge horn wire. couldn't figure it out, tried starting it 3 times, stopped trying when magic smoke came out of the grille-- a long ways from the starter location. agreed, but a maintainer is sometimes easier than tracking down the real issue!
