I mostly lurked here but I figured I'd post a goodbye anyway. I loved the BRZ for the 3 years I had it but have always wanted a little more power. I thought about supercharging it but the headache of daily driving a modified car has never been appealing to me. So, I set out to find another car that would provide the nimble handling of the BRZ but with more power to back it up and ended up settling on a Porsche Cayman.

Used 981's are pretty reasonably priced now and I picked up this 2014 2.7L Cayman with 37k miles for $36k. Only 100lbs heavier than the BRZ but with an NA motor that revs to 7800rpm and makes 275hp. It's a lot smoother and quicker to rev than the FA but makes power in exactly the same way, complete with a mini torque dip between 3-4k.

If anyone else is thinking about making the same switch, don't hesitate. It's fantastic.

Traitor? I guess trader works too since I traded the BRZ in. But thanks, I'm really enjoying it. Needs an exhaust though. I really miss the Corsa I had on the BRZ. Finding out quickly that Porsche parts are a lot more expensive. Borla has one of the cheaper catbacks and its still $1700.

I got a 987.2 earlier this year, currently tryna decide whether i'm keeping it or the BRZ!

I'm around 3200 lb. with driver and full tank in Cayman, a bit over 2900 lb. with fuel and driver in BRZ PP, weight difference is closer to 300 lb.

These two cars complement each other. I have both a 2016 base Cayman 2.7 and 2019 BRZ. The Cayman has all the power missing from the Toybaru, but the Toybaru is more agile.

I and my wife will not give up either.

Even if that power to weight is better, I think the BRZ if anything has made me want to go lighter. That does seem like an awesome car though. I was very tempted to rent a Porsche at Speedvegas for a few laps while I was in LV.

Supercharger is not a headache to daily drive if you do it properly. I have been driving that since two years, >25k miles, all seasons, snow, rain, shine. I will keep my FR-S with more power, additional trunk, and rear seats. Nice car anyway, enjoy!

Which supercharger did you install? Any tips on a daily driver supercharger system?

JRSC. There is nothing you have to do special, just stay stock with everything else and use factory JR CARB tune, have it installed at a reliable place if you don't believe you can do it. I did my own installation; it was as easy as it can get for me. It would be good if you add an oil cooler. There were a couple of vacuum leaks I had to trace and fix initially. You will only need to change the Rotrex oil and filter every two years in addition to regular scheduled service. If Rotrex SC fails, mine never failed, it is ~$2000 to replace and it is very easy. Understand that your warranty is over. And I am so glad that I didn't wait for warranty to expire to make my car awesome. I do all my service myself and feel like I really own this car. It never refused to start or left me on the road since I installed JRSC.

My comments above are about daily driving. If you are going to track your car, supercharged or not, you must understand that you are on your own. You are taking risks and pushing the car to the edge. Tracking implies that you know how to prep a car and fix it or someone else is doing it for you.

Just for fun I looked it up. The BRZ has a 6.9ft³ trunk, more with the rear seats folded but I couldn't find an official figure. The Cayman has a 5.2ft³ frunk and a 9.7ft³ trunk for a combined 14.9ft³.

See, you say no headaches and then immediately in your next post talk about having to trace an issue. That's a deal breaker for me. Props to people who wrench on their own cars but I don't. Exhaust and tune are probably as far as I'll ever go with a daily driver.
