2018 Toyota 86 Mirror display and Steering Wheel controls.
I am planning on replacing the factory Head Unit with an Android Head Unit. Two things I can't find answers to...
Is the backup camera that displays in my rear view mirror independent of the radio? In other words, if I want to leave it as is I don't have to worry about any wiring when replacing the radio. Correct? Since the Android unit has programmable steering wheel controls, is there a simple wiring harness I can buy without having to use the Metra programmable interface? |

I can answer the mirror question for you. Yes. The backup camera mirror display is independent of the radio harness. I've been trying to do the opposite of you, as in getting the camera to display in my pioneer.

That's what I was hoping for. I like the mirror display and it will simplify installation. |

you are correct regarding steering wheel controls. you just need the proper harness and no need for a programmable interface. as for what harness you can buy, i can’t help because i own a 2013 and had to make my own harness direct to the clock spring |
