Recall Success??
I need to register my frs, but they require the recall to be done first. Does anyone have any experience with this, can I get away without the recall fix?
Are there any trustworthy dealerships that you know in Socal that I can take my car in without coming back f**ked? I'm in Orange County, CA. |

Do all states require a recall be done before a car can be registered, or just California?

Meanwhile their own state is on fire again and they can't keep the lights on. But let's impose CA's regulatory overreach on everybody else. |

It’s hard to feel too bad for California when they shoot themselves in the foot over and over. Like the rats carrying BUBONIC PLAGUE and Typhus in LA. Because they don’t want to use real rodent control. It’s insanely mind boggling. The fires are tragic, and I hate to see the damage it causes for people who live there. If this most recent one was set by an arsonist there isn’t much California can do about that. And one of the other fires they believe to have originated from a homeless camp. Sorry to go off topic, I hope the OP can get the valve recall done without any issues! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Do you guys think it’s better to have a Subaru dealership do the valve recall? Unless you have to take it to Toyota because FR-S? I guess a busy Toyota dealership will have seen plenty of FA20’s.

First, you have to have it done at a Toyota dealer. Second, in theory at least, Toyota has done the recall on more FA20s than Subaru has because Toyota sold more 86s than Subaru did BRZs. Subaru had more recalls in general but they were for different models with different engines. Third, unless you live in CA you don't have to have it done. If the engine fails because of it, again in theory, Toyota would pay for the repair assuming it could be proven to be a faulty valve. Fourth, there have been way more successful recalls done than have failed. You just don't hear about every time there is a successful one done.

I'd call the local dealers and ask around to see which dealers had failures and when. My dealer in norcal knew about too much adhesive when a factory car died years ago from it. Since then, they've always been super careful.

Recall Success??
Quote:
That’s really good info! I remember reading about more failures after the recall with the FRS, but it makes sense when you factor in the higher number of FR-S’s out there. And like you said, you usually only hear about the failures, not the cars fixed correctly. Like pretty everything else in life, focus on the negative. (Not that the owners of a failed recall car are looking for attention, they just want to know their options. And possibly warn others about a dealership, etc) My FR-S is a 2016 so I shouldn’t ever need to do the recall, but you never know, recalls get expanded all the time. Honestly I don’t think I would do it unless forced to (like in CA) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
