Working in construction as a project manager, I can plan out a project perfectly only to have it go sideways because of a late shipment, a subtrade messing up on site, some bad weather etc... project management should really be called problem management. I'm very solutions driven, so I try to approach delivering bad news or a conflict by already having prepared some potential solutions that will either fix or at least reduce the impact of that bad news. It has gotten easier to deal with it over time (I've only been at it for 6 years) but I don't think i will ever be able to block off those personal feelings entirely. |

dad also calles it Problem management. Anytime you create a multi faceted project with room for huge errors, those errors will happen and its your plan on back up One thing ive been challenging younger sailors to come to me with. is solutions for problems they have. instead of one sided griping. one sailor who comes across as an arrogant bung hole. is actually extremely smart, but has alot on his personal plate between psychiatric and family issues. I kind of dismissed his "problems" cause those are more need to know based, and counter asked him. you have this issue with work, what is your solution. and I heard it out. I asked him to condense it and put some sprinkles on it so it doesnt sound so much like a demand. and itll pass the higher chain. people are so sensitive to how stuff is worded.. |

Only sometimes. And then sometimes you drop a handheld controller on top of a 52v lithium battery and get a spark and smoke show. Now I need a new controller at $1850 and the BMS replaced in the battery. Whoops.

I have made a very good living figuring out how people can fuck up and trying to prevent it. I have also done just as much work looking at how I missed something and had to figure out how to avoid it happening again.

Here's the thing. If you're not failing, you're just waiting to die. Sometimes you won't fail, and the experience is amazing. Sometimes you discover someone else had a better idea anyway. But without trying, you can't succeed. And expecting failure should be the norm: expecting perfection is the alternative, and that's just not realistic. In the mean time, don't feel bad about taking it personally. It probably isn't personal, and you'll get there. In the mean time, be curious about the exploration. What might you have done differently? What might you have overlooked? As long as you're approaching it with curiosity and not shame, you'll discover, learn, and do better with your next thing. C

A lot of things don't come to fruition because we can't make it safe, or make it serviceable.

I'm not sure. It's never happened to me before. But what I ordered was a scale for my potential business so I could see how much to charge for the shipping haha I was only going to announce costs after I knew for sure what shipping would look like. Now I'm two days behind.
