I don't mean taking a good quote elsewhere to see who can beat it by $100, I mean asking half a dozen thing dealers how much they'll sell one for to ensure you are paying a fair price. I also mean buying your thing from someone you know will give you good service and avoid the thing dealers you know will likely stuff you around. I can't tell you how much I paid for my 86, but I didn't pay full RRP. I'm probably buying another new car later this year or early next and I certainly won't be paying anywhere near RRP on that! Unless of course I have to order it direct for the importer via a website, then I'm trapped into paying whatever the website tells me I have to. Yes, the importer. You guys are not dealing with Subaru (FHI), you are dealing with Inchcape, who have an agreement to be allowed to trade as Subaru Australia. They are an importer and I for one as an 18 year Subaru customer would love nothing more than to see them lose that status and see someone other than Nick Senior have a go. Ever since Trevor Amery left Inchcape, the Subaru brand has gone backwards in Australia - from a consumer perspective. Note, sales have gone up ... but resale percentages have fallen, service standards have declined dramatically, the good dealerships disappeared and the crap ones expanded and whereas when the WRX was released in 1994 Trevor Amery was all over it, Nick Senior had to be publicly dragged kicking and screaming into taking on the BRZ. He then provided dealers (and consumers) with no information, right up to the last minute on how these cars were going to be sold. Even then, they STILL haven't provided those who shelled out a deposit with information on when they might expect to get their $40k purchase. If you're happy about that, then sorry, you're a fool. He just expected consumers to hold out (while they could go and get an 86) while he played God and thought the Subaru faithful would do anything (such as spend hours trying to get through a dodgy website to go into a draw) for a car with no idea what the process was, etc. Well I am the Subaru faithful. I can almost work on these things with my eyes closed. I was involved in starting the first WRX club here in Australia, have followed the brand at rallies all over the world and have met numerous friends through these connections. I will always consider my 86 to be nothing more than a rebadged BRZ. Given the demo models in dealerships were built more than a month ago, Inchcape were in a position to release details then and treat FHI's loyal customers in Australia with a bit of respect. They didn't and Mr Senior can shove his broken website where the sun don't shine. |
