Yeah, if I lived in the middle of nowhere I'd be a bit more willing to get creative / noisy with it. Living in suburbia in decent weather with windows open, while working on the car I know the family across the street is having dinner, because I can hear the kid's dad yelling at them to eat. I also know it is bath time for the neighbor's kid, because I can hear his dad yelling at him to go take a bath. Also there's an ambulance a couple of streets down again for some reason. I'm sure I'll get unsolicited texts from my neighbors tomorrow about what happened.

I totally understand. When I hammered the 7mm socket onto the bolt, it made so much noise I wore hearing protection. I am deaf enough already...

My wife came out of the house to ask: "How long are you gonna do that?"

Torch, hammer, repeat. Finally the socket "married" to the bolt.

in this situation, i think it's fair to say the e-torx bolts are fastened to the seat!

E10 reverse (external) torx bolts, which seem to be rather easy to strip. Left in the below image, with a common replacement on the right.

I wonder the real reason why. Are torx easier in the factory?

it's a very oddball decision considering it's in a japanese model, where they generally prioritize hardware consistency for a reduced number of different components. i think they genuinely tried to make it difficult to pull the seats out of the car.

but then, iirc, the lower seat belt bolt is a 12mm socket... it would have made more sense if all the seat and seat belt hardware was the same oddball e-torx stuff.

There isn't a lot of room inside the seat rail, so it may be easier to assemble. Some people claim it is to deter people from disassembling the seats without the proper tools, but not much sense in that. Not like torx sockets are as difficult to find as a left handed smoke-shifter. I found a few ideas on how to remove them, in addition to Leo's, but will just pay the lazy tax on this one.

Thinking about it, maybe I could get a cheap welder and weld a 12mm nut to the top of the now very stripped bolt, then crank on that. What could possibly go wrong?
