My buddy just had he same thing happen to him. He bought his wife the Carmen Ghia she always dreamed about. She drove it once and parked it. It stayed parked for over a year. He just sold it. He was not happy.

Again, the goal is to build it to drive better.

My younger brother has a 1967 Corvette Stingray, that he just had power steering put in, so it would drive better -

Haha exactly.

Also, google just found me a front IRS conversion kit for the Maverick, so there's that...

Nostalgia is best kept as a memory. The reality was usually just so so.

Also, I got my banking issue resolved with the Capital One savings account. You can't just use the account linked to the credit card. You have to also link it to the savings account separately, for some reason. So once it is confirmed as linked I should be able to transfer money back and forth.

Not knocking it. Just a cautionary tale. I guess I understand how the naysaying is tiresome.

I've said it many times. People forget how bad old cars were, and because it was gradual, don't appreciate how good new cars are.

Got the Lotus smogged today, no problems. Talked to the guys at the shop about my one truck. They say bent axle. $500 for a new one, $300 for used, parts and labor.

Cool.

There are a pile of half finished $40k paid so far projects parked beside garages. The idea seams so simple until the work starts and the bills start rolling in.

Yep the reality may not be what the dream was. When the wife started looking for her first motorcycle she wanted a Ducati Indiana. She thought that was the perfect bike for her. Eighties style with Ducati power and handling. Only a small number were imported into the States and couple to Canada. She ended up with a new 250 Honda Rebel. Now I had known about a stash of new old bikes for many years and in 2005 I took the wife to visit the owner. As luck would have it he had two 650 Indianas. One he had sold to a mutual friend just months before. He liked the wife and a week later accepted her offer. (Long story I'll get into some other time.) It was brand new, in the crate. We uncrated it in his shop and mounted the front wheel to roll it into our trailer. She put everything else together. The look on her face the first time she fired up the bike was worth all the effort, cost and aggravation. It was her pride and joy, a true garage queen. in five years she put less than 1500 klm's on it. When I asked her why she didn't ride it more she admitted that it was uncomfortable and more than a handful. It was too tall, slightly top heavy with a spongy ride. Yep, everything an eighties cruiser was know for. It won awards at every show she put it in. She'd still have it now with probably no more miles on it if not for the then CEO of Ducati. He fell in love with her bike when he saw it at the Indy MotoGP in 2010. The Indiana ended up going back to Italy for him while she got a then, brand new, 2011 Monster 796.

Cool story. Thank you for that. I can still ride my father's 64 duoglide for hours though. It seems to appreciate going down the road.
