Whether or not its an issue, is the only thing that is being determined. |

Clearly it is an issue for most owners to have a noise like this on a new car. What isn't known is the extent of any damage being caused by the lack of lubrication to the HP fuel system? |

I chirped once but it's from Direct Injection so don't worry.

I had this car for about two weeks, and I just hit 737 miles, but it was around 600 miles when I heard this sound and it is really bad after a decent run around town. This started when I did a trip to see a friend that was about an hour away from me. Did not hear it then, but on my third fill up when I got back I heard this sound and I am running 91 that had 10% ethanol. I am seeing a lot of these threads about this and I am thinking of running that lucas oil to see if this clears it up, and also trying to find any gas station close by that I can get better gas from to see if that will help to later on after this tank. Thanks for who posted this and with the information that was gathered.

LOTTA chirping from the tires. This was also my very first tank of gas and all city, but yes I was driving like I stole it, without putting anyone's life in danger of course.

Latest from the Subaru rep I've been working with on my front bumper cover fitment issues is that they've logged enough complaints and a resolution is being worked on by Toyota. No info past that. He stressed again, and cited Toyota as saying this as well, that it is not a detrimental problem to the engine or the fuel system. Adding anything other than actual fuel lubricant (he mentioned zMax, but I'm sure other brands are fine) such as 2-stroke oil can be potentially harmful to the motor and would recommend against it. To anyone looking for a repair in the form of a TSB that's pouring gunk in their fuel tank should consider this, as your claim could very well be denied if they detect additives in your fuel. They have eyes on these open forums and know what users are doing with a surprising amount of clarity. |

I just got my car and it has this issue too. I thought a timing belt or something was loose and making that noise...
I guess it's normal...for now. Will check after I empty out the fuel it came with and refuel with shell. |

I have crickets and I like them, I don't know why you guys are all such haters.
really though is it such a big deal? how many of you have taken apart your fuel pump or even know what is going on in there before you got all excited and decided there was something "wrong?" in my experience (and I make upgraded DI fuel pumps) the noise is more or less common amongst all Delphi/Bosch/Hitachi/Denso fuel pumps, the only ones I haven't heard make this noise are the Siemens pumps in some BMW's (namely the ones that actually have fuel pump issues, real ones like 1500Mile failures) for the style of pump in the car I don't find issue with the noise, my car has 2400 really really hard miles, on and off the dyno, and after some compatibility testing I plan on switching the car over to E-85. You have to realize that Ethanol in fuels, and this pump are not new things, both have been in use together for several years now, if the pump wouldn't work with ethanol Audi would have learned that lesson for us the way they learned that we need port injectors to wash the PCV gunk off the valves. Besides as far as im concerned the best thing that could happen is the motor blowing up under Subaru/Toyotas watch, then you get a new one HELLO...but really i would go crazy with that much downtime under someone else's knife... |

I believe this is only happening in North America.
