If what you're talking about is paint protection film, it's not going to be covering the whole car. It'll do a great job of protecting the parts it does cover but the rest of the paint still needs protection with something like Opti-Coat.

I thought Scotch Guard(tm) was for protecting cloth, ie. the interior materials?

How much did you end up paying... I think they tried to charge me 3000 and I'm not even sure that was for a full front. That was crazy expensive and I wasn't even sure of their quality.

I have no idea, but I would like to find out. There appears to be 4 different Scotchguard products for use on cars. One of them is a paint sealant, but there is very little usable information about it. See the information and prices on the link from a local auto detailer here in Minnesota.

It may be interesting to know that this auto detailer is only a few miles from 3M corporate headquarters.

3M does appear to offer a paint sealant as part of their "Vehicle Protection Package" offered through dealerships. It claims up to 5 years of protection, but I would advise reading the fine print as it likely requires return visits for reapplication of the sealant(s) periodically (every few months, or up to once a year).

Highly doubtful that the product is any comparison to Opti-Coat/Opti-Guard, and it's definitely no substitute for PPF when it comes to chip resistance.
