Anyone Looking To Upgrade Their LSD?
As we all know, MT cars are equipped with a Torsen LSD, which is good enough for most.
Is the Torsen enough for you? or looking to upgrade/improve? and for automatic drivers, are you looking into getting a LSD?

All FR-S and BRZ models have the same 4.10 T2 Torsen in North America. We don't get open diffs here.
Even in other markets only low end A/T's have the open diff. Most still have the Torsen.![]() Jeff

Im sure some of the bigger players (Carbonetic, Cusco, Kaaz) will have a nice clutch (fixed) 1, 1.5, and 2 way unit for HPDE and TT use. I would bet Quaife is going to release an automatic torque biasing unit in the somewhat near future too.

Considering the diff in the FR-S isn't a new unit, there should be loads of options out there already.

Cusco already has a 1.5 and a 2.0 way lsd.
http://www.enjukuracing.com/categori.../Differential/ ![]() ![]() Cusco's Type MZ Limited Slip Differential utilizes clutch discs to provide high initial torque. This is best suited for those who drift and drag race and require solid engagement. With forged internals housed in a chromoly case, this LSD is extremely durable and will serve you well in the most extreme conditions. Available in 1.5 Way or 2.0 Way, please select above! Cusco is proud to announce a full product line-up for the new Scion FR-S and Subaru BR-Z! Make Enjuku Racing your home for all your FR-S and BR-Z Needs, We will have parts available for sale as fast as they are released. the Scion FR-S and Subaru BR-Z is this years most sought after Sport Compact car, so manufacturers are working hard to have a large variety of aftermarket parts available as soon as possible, We Promise to offer the lowest possible pricing, and the best customer service in the Industry. Product Information: 1. Type-RS - Low initial torque type using RS springs. 2. Type-MZ - Initial torque created by the cone plates. NOTE! Type RS for low initial torque. With the Type RS, the initial torque is absorbed by the RS springs therefore the initial torque comes on gently compared to the Type MZ which comes on stronger as it uses cone plates and response of the LSD is better, as the friction is lower. *Lower initial torque *Lower power loss *Reacts well to delicate pedal work *Durable and develops initial torque steadily A CUSCO original design. - 1.5 way LSD Activates under acceleration while the understeer is less than on the 2 way LSD.Recommended for drivers having difficulty with 2 way LSD understeer and one way LSD braking. - Two way LSD Recommended on the rear axle for rear drive cars. Activates on both acceleration and deceleration. Recommended for those who prefer hot driving action and big angle drift. Images May Not be Vehicle Specific. For Display Purposes Only. |

I've had Cusco Type RS LSD 1,5 way on my Subaru Forester in the rear and it was so much fun and pleasure
Even on the dry warm road i could do donuts even if i just push gas to the floor from idle , despite I had AUTO TRANSMISSION hehe [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ENLwR2oenk"]Forester LSD - Cusco 1.5way type RS - YouTube[/ame] |

The majority of my real racer/track customers INSIST on clutch (fixed) differentials only. They will NOT buy anything else. They pop, chatter, buck, and make a whole bunch of noise. They find they have better feel, response and performance.
I would never recommend one unless the customer understands what they are getting into with it or specifically asks for it. Someone who just wants a performance upgrade while maintaining quiet operation and drivability I recommend Quiafe ATB diffs. Last edited by No Limit Motorsport; 07-19-2012 at 03:13 PM. |
